When published stories are edited, do they appear as new?

In the FAQ's it's said that previous voting score and views are retained and the text is simply replaced. Does that mean everything else is retained such as date that story was posted or is the new edited version treated as a new story?

Edited stories are not usually reposted as new. That reduces the value in editing an already-published story.

No. An edited story does not get a second run as a new story. Scores and comments are retained as was, and the old text is replaced with the new, but that's it.

Further Clarification on EDIT Submissions

++++

As noted by others, your EDITED version is not treated as a new story. As to the date, it remains as the first dated submission, not the date of the edited version. You could edit it several times and still not change the Lit submission date.

I have made edits to some of my works. I asked for changes in tags as well. They were not changed; the original tags remained in the first story submission.

The site will change the title of a story, if you wish that to happen, make it clear in the comments to the editor when submitting your edit(s).

If you want to have the story appear as a new submission. You must send a request to delete the first story then resubmit the new one, best done with a new title or variation of it. That will put the story in place as new. The drawback of that, however, is the possibility that someone will have read the other version and, if they are polite, let you know that they already read 'the same story' before on Lit. If they are not polite they probably rate it low '1' and anonymously suggest you stole the story.
