When It's In to Be Out

I couldn't find the old thread about out celebs, so here is an interesting slide show.

Just out of general interest, not stalking or outing, come on folks, we all pick up a People mag from time to time if we think no-one is looking. Don't we?

WOW! Too cool slideshow! Some of those folks I didn't know were queer (Amanda Bearse, Lesley Gore, Sir Ian McKellen) and one is a good friend of ours. Suse and Amy are in the same business and work together sumtimes (we all are from Illinois and are UI grads too) - even if Suse is WAY old... :D - (just in case she ever reads this!)

actually most of them I say "who are they ?" and the rest I just say "so what , let them be". actually that is my stand whether I know who they are or not . Look at my comment about when Jodie Foster came out of the closet. it is in the GLBT news part. And I am not sounding cynical or for that matter cold , I am just thinking "let them be, and respect them as human beings and not as famous people".

Plezli here is the thread

How the hell is talking about somebody who has publicly announced that they are queer "outing" them? You make it sound like they should be ashamed of it or something. It IS possible to be both queer and proud. It's also possible to be proud FOR our queer brothers and sisters.

Why shouldn't emerging queers have good, successful queer role models? I would have LOVED to been able to have known about more of them. It would have let me know that the new feelings I was experiencing were more okay and that I wasn't some freak. I don't believe in "outing people," but if they are okay with being in the spot light and being queer, I not only think it's fine, but commendable.

Safe_Bet: it is NOT what I am saying, sure they are allowed to be proud and out. But what blatantly kills the joy is something that I have wrote about before. Jesus Christ, can´t you see something else, than me condemning them ? I am just a man who thinks privacy is better than those pesky paparazzi´s . Get it ? Got it ? Good ! It is the tabloid shit that makes me angry. Why is that so hard to understand ? heck if you want to read my statements in the Jodie Foster thread, then do that. Since it should be clear as crystal.

Girl, how did you not know Amanda Bearse and Ian McKellen are gay?! They are totally activists! Lesley Gore has been out for a while now but she isn't very vocal about it. But come on, where you been?! You gotta get a subscription to the Advocate or something. ;)

*gawd help me as I semi agree with Wolfman1982* I think I might have heard Bearse was queer, but I didn't pay it much mind cuz I didn't know it for sure. If I don't read/see/hear that they "outed" themselves then I ignore it cuz half the time it isn't true. Ian McKellen and Lesley Gore came as a complete surprise. Guess I better order my damn subscription...

As someone who thinks that (A) we dig way too far into celebrities personal lives in general and (B) except for places tlike here on lit or among friends who are ok with it, private lives should be left private, I like the way it was handled when someone outed Neil Patrick Harris. It came out that he was gay, when asked he pretty much said "yes I am, so what", and then it just wasn't news anymore and you stopped hearing about it.
