What kind of situation is "death" acceptable?

I'm NOT implying about murder/rape stories, that disgusts me. But I'm wondering about like an erotic asphyxiation that both parties consent to.

For example,

  • face-riding to orgasm, and the woman gets carried away
  • having sex while someone is calling for help while drowning, but the 2 parties don't stop to help
  • having sex but one of the two has a heart attack and the other doesn't stop because they don't realize it until it's too late

I know there's more examples, this is just a few to understand.

When is it acceptable to have a death in your story? Is it as long as the main aspect isn't murdering for sexual pleasure?

Thank you.

I don't think the site has any restriction on death in stories, as long as they aren't "snuff," but I suspect if the death occurs in the course of sex then you're walking a narrow line.

I kill people off or have them die on a pretty regular basis, but not during sex.

I posted a sardonic tale where one party fatally exploded during sex. Laurel rejected it several times but approved when I changed death to comic disfigurement.

I've plotted a story told in first-person present-tense where the fuckers' aircraft crashes during orgasm. Their deaths aren't snuff. Nobody dies for another's sexual gratification.

I wrote a story where one is accidentally fatally poisoned but not during sex. Protests had it removed. I pointed out its snufflessness to Laurel and she reinstated it.

Yes, heart attack or fatal stroke etc during sex would likely pass... unless the survivor had planned the victim's orgasmic death... unless the survivor is a succubus. Snuff passes in Erotic Horror.

If you're asking will it impact your story's score, the answer is probably yes. I have one story in a series in which a longstanding character is killed (offscreen, not during sex or anything like that) and it has by far the lowest score in that series. I'm pretty sure the death is the reason why. But it won't stop your story from being approved.

*sigh* It depends entirely how it fits into your story and who is reading and voting on it--so, not much at all.

OP : Rape and murder may be disgusting to you, but they are just plot tools many writers and movie producers utilize to shape sentiment among readers/viewers. The song “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones is a prime example of shaping sentiment during the Vietnam War.

I’ve used both rape and murder in my older stories. I’m not one for the word c_nt either, but I have used it in a chapter or two to shape reader sentiment as well - disgusting, yes, but a tool nonetheless.

When is it acceptable? When I can develope a character no further, I either write them out of the story or kill them off. Now, their death has an impact on the survivors in some way. The story progresses because death is a part of life and it has consequences on a storyline. Used effectively, rape and death can shape a story beyond what would otherwise constrain a story in stagnation. Think of all the wonderful cliffhangers we would lose in some of those great TV shows.

I've a couple of well-received stories where I killed a sympathetic leading character. Oh, the tragedy! Not a dry eye in the house! In the story I mentioned above of explosive sex, I also juicily slaughtered numerous sleaze-bags, but not sexually. My most successful LW tale has malefactors swept away in divine wrath. I edited a contest-winning EH tale where a succubus killed many humans. And so on.

When is death acceptable in a LIT story? Whenever it's called for.

What, are we gonna have a bunch of bots posting 'how can I get death in my stories' threads now instead of 'how can I get underage in my stories' threads?
As long as nobody tries to sneak normal animals into the fun, fine. And no spam.
