After thinking about this from another thread.

The more I thought about it, the more I find myself agreeing
with Naked Hunny's calculation of when old begins.

I have decided to hypothesise this as a formula, and would like the boards view on this matter.

X = (Y-1)

Where X is old age, and Y is the age of ones mother.

Therefore X = (Y-1) for me, works out at 76 years old.

I must say, I do think this is old.

I think old age descends on a case by case basis. I think it mostly starts when someone makes up his or her mind, never to change it again, or open it, or even broaden it.

As for the body, well, I've got arthritic knees and hands, grey hair, and some lines that weren't there ten years ago around my eyes. Things aren't quite as high as they used to be.

But I like to think my mind is still open. I think I'll kick it open a few more inches and see what comes through.

Well with that formula old age for me is 60. I will be 31 next month and still feel 16 on the inside, most days. Sure there are days when the kids make me feel like I am already 60 but I feel age is more of a state of mind.

If you think and feel you are old then you are, if you ignore they stereo type for older people then you are not.

Personally I prefer the formula.

A = (b+25)

Where A equals advancing years.

And b equals your own age.

So if b = 39. Then A = 64.

Now, I have a headache. Besides, I refuse to think about getting old until I pass the 60 mark at least! I have a ways to go yet. :)

WOW I didnt think this would cause such a big deal that it would get its own thread I feel special!!

DAM KIDS today....................................Just don't respect there elders................................

When does old age start?

When you let it.

One of my favorite little sayings: None are so old as those who live without enthusiasm.

Old age starts ONCE YOU ALLOW it to.

I still contend that it's more of physologicial state than any number of physicial years.

Favorite Family Story on Aging

My grandma was in her 80's and she started a sentence with "When I get old...." We all laughed and said "WHEN you get old? You ARE old!" She got very irritated with us-she really didn't think of herself as "old". She was 90 when she died, and I don't think she still considered herself old!

I personally like the formula of my age + 20 years = old.

I'm already old

I'm 25 but according to Miss Tiggs, I'm pushing 30. LOL

I have to agree with this, you're not old until you allow yourself to be old! My mom is 45, and everyone thinks she's my sister! She still gets carded occasionally, and anyone who guesses her age says she's in her 20's! (And I'm happy to say these are my genes!!) :) Her dad is the same way, he's like 76, and looks more like he's in his 40's. But the thing is, they're very healthy & active people; though in all honesty, I think they could use a little more fun in their lives. I suppose they do things that they find entertaining, so I'm gonna say that means I'll live even longer, cause I don't take myself as seriously as all that! :)

It is my contention that you are not old until the following phrase escapes your lips:

TURN DOWN THAT DAMN MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

You are only as old as you feel....

...and think! I've always maintained since I was 15 that I wouldn't be old until I was 90 and then I will have earned the title! :D

I always liked my grandma's attitude she use to tell me that everyone in the family thought she was senile but she'd grin at me and say, "I'm not you know. I am very aware of current events and everything going on around me." I have finally reached the age that I can say ANYTHING I want, speak my mind and people just go "Oh it's okay she's just senile". I've taken on her philosophy when people would tell her she couldn't do certain things because she was to old and what are people going to say, she would look at them and say "so what and who cares!"

LOL my kids say that to me all the time, well without the damn. I tell them if they do not like how loud my music is play in the neighbors yard. It is not as loud over there.

Old is a state of mind.

I'm 43 and still get carded sometimes.....I smile when they see the birth year of 1957, and realize I'm laughing at em.....

I won't be old no matter how old I am...lol. Mature, yes, but not old!

I'll take dyslexia for $100

..'cause I feel myself a lot and I don't feel old...Then again what does old feel like???

as far as turning down the music.... Ha! Get real! :D

Can ya just picture it...me in a nursing home...cranking the Ramones....chasing the babes in their wheelchairs?

Nah...neither can I.

IT'S LIKE BILLY CRYSTAL SAYS IN "CITY SLICKERS"

Old age begans when you are growing hair where you don't want it and losing hair where you want it to be.

I tried Maturity once...... It didn't work

at work we have a guy who just turned 29, the other day he said he was starting to feel old. The other two guys on the press and I turned to each other and Burst out laughing (we're all in our mid-fourties). I've got grey hairs, the odd aches and pains now and then, but i'm still climbing all over that thing and i don't feel old yet...
