When does a story become a Novella?

I came up with a story idea about a guy who magically makes his penis detachable, and then hijinx occur. The current situation is that I have written more than 5000 words and his penis has yet to detach (not even any normal sex).

So at the rate the story is progressing, it will probably be 20k words at the shortest. Is that considered a novella?

Also for the authors who have written novellas... Do you get a lot of readers and feedback?

Yeah. 20K words is usually considered a novella.

My novellas do pretty well actually. Among my most read and commented on works.
