...all you can do is stand there until its grip diminishes or it becomes a permanent part. Music saves my sanity while the world crumbles around me.

Do you continue to seek new musical enlightenment, or lean on the old, familiar sounds?

I think familiar songs are always more soothing to me at times.

I too have that playlist which can pull me back from the brink but something just won't let me be satisfied when the next familiar tune is still out there. I must have a hungry soul.

Is it anything like when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie?

I am currently obsessed with the Yes song "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", especially the breakdown before the guitar solo with those massively gated drums fighting it out with Trevor Horn's Fairlight string hits.

Yes is coming to Bloomington Nov. 30. sans Rick Wakeman & Jon Anderson. Want tickets?

Old and familiar. I have no confidence in the direction popular music is evolving. I use to think Disco was about the worse thing that could have happened to our culture. Then Rap and Hip Hop came along.

It is a delight to be surprised and captivated by a new melody, but I can't remember when that last happened.

both, but honestly if i find something new that i like it generally fits within certain pre-determined parameters that were established in brain ages ago and are currently unchangable. i'm getting old, apparently.

To be honest with you, I used to feel the same way. And I'll go further and add that the 80's happened. That whole decade sucked, even the bands that I used to love, (Genesis, Yes, etc.). That's about when I gave up on new music. The downside of that was that I got stuck. Not a place where I wanted to be for 20 years...

However, several years ago someone reintroduced me to new music. I found so much that I enjoy and get into as much as I did the older stuff. Some really good music out there these days, I promise you...

Give it another shot...

The lead singer did this great meld song with some mild techno band. For the life of me I cannot find it, but it was great.

Wow. A real answer.

I'm a sucker far a ballad.

Since you seem to understand the substance of my reservations, how about some recommendations?

I feel that way about different forms of art and literature. It keeps things fresh and interesting. I intentionally delete playlists after awhile just to get out of a ditch and look for new things. Especially some of the fresh voices with new ideas are really invigorating. I saw KT Tunstall at this gorgeous outdoor venue this summer; had never heard of her before, and this little Brit 5-footer burned down the f-ing house.

If you just go with things you know... the great things you miss are many.

Neneh kicked me to this gem, which led me to this which seemed important when I was 8. It also probably originated by love of industrial films which reaches its pinnacle with Klaus.

Just sampled it, she is good enough to browse some more. I'll let you know if she grabs my balls. :D

She reminds you of someone special?

Huh. Good music usually makes my nipples hard and gives my arms goosebumps. Sorry about your balls.
