What's Wrong With Happy Endings?

I thank all for your feedback. Perhaps I am an old-style writer. I like each story I write to have a beginning and an end. I'm not a Chapter writer like some. Not knocking it, just not my style. I also tend to tie the loose ends of a story together at the conclusion in an unrealistic manner. I figure if you want reality, turn on the TV and watch the news. There's more than enough reality in the real world.

I'm not being defensive. I really do welcome your comments, negative or positive. I recognize that my writing style is unrealistically optimistic and unreasonably hopeful and if I can't think such things are possible then I wouldn't be me.

I'm looking forward to submitting more stories, receiving more honest feedback, and celebrating erotica in my unrealistally optimistic style.

THANKS ALL!!

There is nothing at all wrong with happy endings. All my stories have the main characters happy and sexually satisfied at the end.

Food For Thought

I have given this subject much thought and realize happiness is a frame of mind, not a physical condition. Someone out there proposed an ending to my story "A Treasure Found" that initially appalled me but in hindsight I wonder if it couldn't have ended in that manner and still be considered a happy ending. Thanks to that reader for the feedback and opening my mind to new ideas. I guess that's why we share; for personal growth and assisting others in that arena.

Sometimes, the way my stories tend to take on a life of their own... any ending is a happy one....

From my point of view anyway....

I prefer happy endings - and happy stories. I find a lot of stories on lit treat the naughty parts too seriously.

But that isn't to say I like forced happy endings. Sometimes the characters or story line don't call for it, and to do so seems to ruin the story credibility.

I did give my latest story a not so happy ending - or not the preferred ending, which readers seemed to find plausible and didn't crucify me too much when it came time to vote, even though they complained [nicely]! :D

What's wrong with happy endings?

I can only think of three things wrong with a happy ending:

Nothing!
Nothing!
Nothing!

Happy endings are wonderful..especially in real life. I guess the problem some people have with happy endings is that they do become too bland and predictable.

As great as "Murder, She Wrote" was in the 80's where there was always a happy ending, people today tend to gravitate towards shows like "CSI" that eventhough there's a resolution of the plot, its not always a feel good ending. But people never get tired of it because they don't know what will happen until the very last scene.

With the stories here, if a happy ending was always the desired result, at some point every story would have a paint by numbers feel and there would be no inherant drama because you would always know where the story was going.

In the real world, sometimes the bad guy wins!!
