What's with the hurricanes?

Did you guys make God mad or something? Or does this happen every year and my recent tendency to watch the Weather Channel is making me more aware of it?
This is not a troll call, i'm honestly puzzled.
If you had a bona fide metorological explanation (OTHER than global warming) that would be good too.
Is it Dubya's fault?

It's cylic. It happens from time to time. I lived on the east coast growing up and it happens.

From CNN

Warm currents drive hurricanes
The technical name for the engine driving the hurricane cycles is the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, or AMO for short. It can cause droughts in the West and hatch hurricanes in the East.

"This cycle has been repeating back to the Ice Age," Willoughby said. "It's related to changes in the ocean currents that move heat northward. If it's fast, we get a lot of hurricanes."

Studies show the AMO was cool -- and the currents slower -- from 1900 to 1925, warm from 1926 to 1969, cool from 1970 to 1994 and warm since 1995.

And so, to a generation of Americans with little experience with hurricanes, it seems like these monsters are coming out of nowhere.

Gray and Willoughby are among the skeptics who doubt global warming can be blamed for the trend of the past few years. They are joined by the hurricane trackers at the National Hurricane Center.

"We're just entering a busy time here," said Chris Lauer, a meteorologist at the center.

"You see a few decades of slower activity, followed by a few decades of higher oscillation," he said. "Our position is the recent increase in hurricane activity is not caused by global warming."

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, suggested earlier this month that more than nature and coincidence might be driving the storms.

In short: Could be natural, could be global warming, could be a combination.

And with more people living on the coast, when it happens it is more devastating. So God isn't mad at us... but I think we can still blame Dubya!

It's the end times . . . the world is ending. . . :p

I wish I knew if that was true before I go out and buy water and batteries. Yet again!

And then of course you can take into account this is not just a US issue as it is happening everywhere...strange weather I mean. My mother says the storms they have been having in her part of Oz are also like nothing she has ever seen before, as in their ferocity etc, and she is approaching 80 so has a little more history to look back on then 20-30 years.

Catalina :rose:

Personal experience in weather isn't worth that much though. People tend to forget the bad stuff, don't remember bad storms, cold summers, warm winters...

I always thought that the developement of hurricanes (if there are any) has nothing to do with the global warming but that their strength increases due to it (or due to the melting of the ice caps, not sure anymore)

Must be! LOL

Actually it's just weird. Beyond hurricanes their's huge earthquakes, the tsunami last year, etc. The bible says in the end time their will be huge natural disasters. *shrugs* The bible also doesn't specify how huge, or how long that will go on. Plus their's lotsa other things that are supposed to happen before the antichrist comes. Who know?

So, what you're saying is, if it IS global warming, it's all God's fault? Well, if anybody has control over the weather, it would be God.

I dunno. I think a lot of things that happen aren't necessarily God fault, but He knew that they were gonna happen. The bible says that all will work out to the glory of God. *shrugs* I don't know.

Beyond that the bible says that Jesus will come back soon after these signs. But His idea of soon and ours differs. The disciples believed He'd come back in their life times, or at least their childrens life time. So by soon it could mean another 2000 years or so.

Very true you are Graceanne. We just don't know. In 1999 I became a zealot for awhile. Right at the time of Y2K and all kinds of End Times talk flying around. I became convinced the world as we know it was going to end by 2003. Well, I am still convinced that world as we know it will end. I just no longer try to project when that might be. Makes for a happier pita. :)

Yeah, I'm like that too. I used to get all stressed, but I figured that if the world was going to end their was nothing I could do about it and I didn't want to spend my last days all stressed out. lol

Really... because I do know. Ranger Gord on Red Green said it was in November, I think 2011 and it's on a Thursday after lunch.

Makes as much sense as any other theory.

Why not June 6th, 2006? Then the date will be 666. LOL Or who knows, maybe the next millenium. We might have to wait till 3000, since everyone seems so certain the world will end on a millenium. LOL

I dont like to think about the world ending. Lately it sends me into envisioning nuclear bombs being dropped near by and me feeling my skin burn off as I hear my baby boy screaming in agony....really not a happy thought. I like the Gaia idea that the Earth knows what it's doing, and that it likes balance. Everything in nature seems to like to be balanced and that the cooky weather is to help maintain that balance.

*ug* I really avoid thinking of those kinda things. We were living near a train tracks the day of 9/11, and they stopped the trains from going through that day, so that night three went through. Normally they didn't wake me up, but that night I woke up every time, SURE it was a plane. I would realize it was just the train half way to the girls' room, determined to lay on them. lol It was aweful.

i confess. It's all my fault. During my recent attempts to reformat i knocked a few satelites out of orbit, accidently demagnitized the earth's magnetic field too, i think .... windows gave me a few warnings & errors ... but i ignored them and plunged onward in a hazardous attempt at fixing an already completely fubared system .... my fault, my bad. Ooooopsie .. heh.

Bab bad pc user .... huh? i bet some may suggest that i should be punished, but it wasn't intentional .. so it doesn't count. Right?? :D

That's okay, as I well know the road to hell is paved with good intentions... I think mine is a four lane complete with clover leaves by now.

And it's my fault... I was licking Dh's ass last night...

So sorry all

FINALLY a logical explanation ... I've been trying to figure that out for a while. I can sleep better tonight. (Oh, damn, forgot, gotta do my huricane preparedness shit).
Alright, sinnOcent1, looks like you have to face the consequences

I was going to suggest we don't share any cookies with her. I have double stuffed Oreos here!

Ok, ok .. and here i was all prepared and willing to take all of the blame and hoard it for myself... (yeah, i did laugh at that explaination of your's Red Sonja .. thank you) and i have to agree, i myself have felt the earth shake while doing just the same (not to your Dh of course, though ... meaning my Master ;) ) ... so i am willing to share the blame with you. i'd suggest a 30/70 % split (30 reflecting your respective portion). :D

And when she was good she was very very good, and when she was baaaaaaaad ... she was very very good at being very very baaaaaaaaaaaad.

 Whadda ya mean no more spankings?!? Great, graceanne ... now i am torn between whether i should be good, or just practice at being even baaaaaaaaaader. :p

( And certainly, being baaaaaaaaad is only fun and acceptable here. Wouldn't dare to intentionally be anything other than a good girl here at home. ;) )
