What's with all the republicans coming out of the closet?

In a Monday morning interview on a California radio talk show, Republican state Sen. Roy Ashburn said he is gay. The public confession comes just days after his drunken-driving arrest led to reports that before the police stop, the conservative lawmaker had attended a gay nightclub.

Well considering that TMZ/National Enquirer/et all would be jumping all over that shit, it is probably good damage control to come out now before the rumor mill really gets going.

The thing about this is, like so many of his closeted conservative brethren before him *cough* Larry Craig *cough*, he was a loud voice in opposition to gay rights and a proponent of "Traditional Family Values"..

Oh the irony of his being spotted leaving a gay men's club.

I'm an independent but every Republican I know thinks that every Democrat is a gay. But it seems like every couple of months another anti-gay, conservative politician has to admit having alternative desires.

They've got to do something to try to break through the Democrat's 24x7 embarrass-a-thon.

Why, in just New York state alone, you've got Rangel and Massa in congress, and Paterson in the governor's office.

Would you have a problem with an alcoholic being anti-drinking?

I have a problem with hypocrisy.

and considering all the unflattering things I've heard from my Republican friends regarding gays, it just strikes me as damned funny.

Why is it hypocrisy?

Can't you be born with a predisposition, yet not want it?

I don't know the answer to that but I do know that if I was visiting a gay bar for fun and voting against all pro gay legislation, I would feel like a hypocrite...but hey...that's just me.

How would you feel about a man who lives as a woman, and hates men?

My only interest in this topic is one of amusement. I happen to believe in equal rights for everyone but this isn’t an issue I’m particularly passionate about. The numerous stories of conservative politicians coming out of the closet is funny to me only because my conservative friends always refer to Democrats as limp wristed liberals.

Miles, I only care about the opinion of people I have respect for. You, I don't know, so I don't care what you think. It's as simple as that. As much as you want me to care what you think, I don't.

Since you got such a amusing kick out of a Republican being gay, I thought you'd get a much bigger kick out of fully self admittedly gay republican organization. It's ok, you can wait until you quit laughing and get off the floor before answering.:D

You're assuming that Dave comprehends what you're talking about.

Geeze….you guys are really overreacting to being poked about gay republicans. I have real time political friends on the far right and far left just like some of the people on this board. The right always accuses the left of being limp wristed, weak on crime, weak on national defense liberals. For that reason, the republican gay scandals are funny to me. If you have a problem with that, I guess that’s unfortunate.

Yeah, well...he said something stupid and can't own up to it....kind of like stepping in dog shit and can't getting it off your shoe. :)

I'm not interested in getting to know names and personalities, but you are starting to remind me of someone on the far left who insists I pay attention to him. What you both fail to understand is that I'm not interested in your opinion, on anything. I'm here for fun, unfortunately he isn't funny and neither are you.
