They just run in waves, for a while it was all cartoon stories, or fantsy stories. Seems to me there are more stories than anyone can write for in any category that turns you on.
From what I can tell, incest is very popular in erotic fiction. My guess is that's because it's a fantasy that's difficult to realize in any other way.
If one is, for instance, into lesbians (like me) then there are thousands of movies I can see and even more magazines I can buy. If I really want to I can go to Las Vegas or something and hire a pair of girls to act it out live in front of me. Millions of images exist online for me to get off on. It is easy for me to get my fix. It's impossible for me to actually participate, being male, but that's why I write about it from the female perspective - to satisfy the one thing I can't do otherwise.
Which is precisely why incest stories are so prevalent. Take someone like John Q. Sickbastard, who's into the idea of nailing his sister. Unless his sister is similarly inclined, he's out of luck. Sure, he could look at images of people who claim to be siblings having sex, but unless they're identical twins he can't be sure they're not just saying that (and that only works if he likes to watch homosexual acts). And he can hire a hooker who will pretend to be his sister, but it strikes me that it just wouldn't be the same. The only way in which Mr. Sickbastard can throw his fantasy into focus is to write about it. Well, he could also sneak pictures of his sister in the shower, but that could have some really heavy consequences if he's caught.
I think that some also do it just for the shock value. Of course, that's pretty much worn off by now, because if so many people do it it's no longer shocking.
I find it abhorrent. I hate incest stories. I have read some would-be good stuff on CHYOO which I didn't contribute to solely due to the incest angle. It bothers me a bit, actually, because if the two parties are consenting adults and harming no one else by their acts I don't see why I should have such a problem with it. The fact is that I do. I will certainly have none of it in my stories, but so far it's never come up.
You bring up an interesting point, gystex. But it also occurs to me that maybe people write them just to write them. I mean, just because I will most likely never have sex with a person of another race (no offense intended. I've already met the love of my life, btw.), that doesn't mean that I won't write about it.
In all honesty, I have written several stories about things I would never do. Including mind-control/non-consensual sex (They're both the same thing, in my opinion. If you're controlling them, then it's not consensual). Although that was a long time ago and I have no intention of writing about it again. I've also written stories about incest, but I will never, and I do mean never, do something like that in real life.
I just hope that I got my point across. Just because a person writes about something, it doesn't mean it, in any way, gives clues to their personality. It's just a story, guys. Fiction plain and simple. A necessary diversion to get away from the stresses of reality. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Wyldnight also brings up an interesting point, the idea of there being no difference between "Mind Control" and "Non-Consent". This is something I have struggled within myself to reconcile, as I am vehemently opposed to rape and yet get turned on by a story about, say, hypnosis. Why, I ask myself, is this?
In the real world, I'd say there is indeed no dividing line. To use hypnosis or brainwashing techniques in order to force sex with someone is no different than forcing it at knifepoint or through the use of drugs. In the real world, forced sex is forced sex no matter how it's done.
But while I find it utterly impossible to enjoy a story in which a woman (for example) is forced violently against her will, I can enjoy one in which she is mesmerized by a magical device. After thinking about it extensively, I came to the conclusion that what matters is that there is no genie of the lamp who can magically bend women to your will, there is no high-tech way to instantly hypnotise someone and make them your love slave, and there is no love potion that will make an otherwise frigid woman willingly and enthusiastically open her legs.
If it's pure fantasy, something impossible in real life, I can indulge myself (my own "Sappho's Amulet" is an example of this). If it's a story wherein, for example, the victim is slowly brainwashed and transformed into a sexual slave, then it has too much potential basis in fact for me to just say "it's harmless fantasy". Another example is the idea of a psychiatrist seducing his patient through hypnosis. If the story presents it realistically, stretching it out over dozens of sessions and detailing how the doctor slowly entrances the patient's mind, then it's too real and I don't like it. But if the story instead says that the seduction happens all at once in a single session (something that just can't happen), then I like it.
Maybe it's a cop-out , but that's how I have come to justify my appreciation for "mind control" and, at the same time, hold my steadfast stance against the "non-consent" scenario.
Well as far as the mind control goes...here is perhaps why you enjoy reading it [and I find myself in a similiar quandry]. Basically, with the mind control...there is no violence, no threats of death or severe pain, but usually the subject ends up enjoying the "rape" of thier body. As for the incest, its a forbidden fruit...but there is also the fact that in some aspects, if you can't trust family, who can you trust? I more or less look at it as a way for the main character to be somewhat comfortable with the opposing sex [or same sex if that be the case]. But I've pretty much grown out of that...and have found other stories of other formats that are more interesting.
I think it's the fantasy that is what attracts me.
I've written both kinds of thread, the ones where the victim enjoys it, and the ones where she doesn't.... Even wrote one from the victims point of view....
I think the situation is the attraction. It's interesting for me from a plot point of view and a bit of a turn on too. I admit to being a little weird there. I would never in a million years ACTUALLY rape someone (Have been on the receiving end of that once, and it was NOT a pleasant experience) but the fantasy is very appealing to me.
I think it probably ties in with my "Risky sex" obsession. I mean, what could be more risky than unwilling unprotected sex....
