I'm not really one to be concerned about ratings, H tags and awards, but I do care alot about getting my stuff out to the readers (and feedback, that''s always nice). And in the hit-count, something weird is going on. Reads on my poems had so far reached 100, maybe 200, in the first few days, and then trickled slowly up, 5 a week or so.

So what's up with these four posted the last month?

Bee's Knees
4.40 - 5 - 790

Hyper Poetry
4.83 - 6 - 1001

Maritime Licks
5.00 - 5 - 1029

standard he said she said song
3.83 - 6 - 1572

(score - votes - reads, you know)

Not that I'm complaining, but i find it a bit odd. I haven't done anything to promote them more than posting a link in my sig. But I do that with all new poems.

For instance, those two have had about the same exposure, but more "normal" statistics.

Backtracking
4.33 - 3 - 81

Burning Jante
4.20 - 5 - 114

Ok, quirky titles, but that can't be the whole explanation. Is someone linking my stuff from the outside?

nope, it's the new public comments format. People see what other people think, and decide to check out the rest of your stuff. Mine has jumped too, as has Sj's from what he said on another thread.

my theory, anyway.

Thought so too first. But ten times as many readers? The way it strikes some poems and others not..well, I dunno. Still think it's weird.

Happy as a pig in mud about it though. :)

I don't know. It's not the first time that some poems get their read count hiked up beyond any reasonable explanation/expectation.

The reads seem to be updated for a group of poems at the time. That's my impression from observing reads. When there is a sudden hiking of the "reads", it takes a couple of days before all poems (from different groups) which are to get the advantage get it. I've checked just now my poems. It's a bit weird, because all my top 10 (read-wise) poems, and only they, which happen to be the only ones with more than a 1000 reads, got their count bumped up, by 400+ to 700+ reads withing last 5 days. For the top illustrated poems, 400 would be pretty normal, but not for my poems, which are all regular. Otherwise my 'round... gets routinely about 15 new reads per day (in recent months; it used to be only 13 per day). All the rest gets 10 or under 10 per day (with rare exceptions). Thus 500 in 5 days seems excessive.

Sometimes I thought that a new and popular site learns about Literotica. But why would new reads get distributed so unevenly?

Of course the knee jerk reaction is: bugs.

And my stored trivia data show that five of my ten top poems got extra many reads also during the dec 10-17. (Yes, days 10-17 overlap with 15-20--my trivia operation is not perfect nor complete :)).

Mutated Vote Muncher??

I seldom check counts. If I look at stats it is usually a quick vote scan to see if anything has close to 10 votes or has dropped back to zero. (The latter far more common than the former.) :(
But looking today I find that poems that start with a punctuation mark or a number have gained well over a thousand views. All other poems have dropped back to between roughly 300 and 500 views with most closer to the lower end. I do remember that one specific poem had more than1700 views and is now around 350. (It had lost most of its votes in previous skirmishes with the monster muncher.)

PS: Is anyone else having trouble connecting to MSN-HotMail? I haven't been able to check my mail in over two days.
