What's the possibility.....

Don't wish to sound pessimistic but you have only got the ladies word that she had taken the pill and even then it is not 100% and a barrier method of contraception is liable to split or fail.It is unlikely but possible. Never trust a woman that tells you she is on the pill or a man who says he's had a vasectomy.

It is always possible. It is so easy to mess the pill up by skipping a dose, taking antibotics, taking it off schedule, ect... Some low dose pills are not enough for some women.

I always use condoms, don't trust anything I can see, but nothing is absolute except complete abstience, cyber or phone sex.

I say if you have a problem do a paternity test.

I agree with what's already been said. No contraceptive is 100% effective.

Actually...

... if woodcarver's %'s are right, then it's the chances are much less likely she got pregnant. If condoms are 98% effective and the pill, if used properly, is 99% effective, then the chances are 2% (chance the condom failed) * 1% (chance the pill failed) = 0.02%. That's 1 in 5,000 chance. Still a hell of a lot more likely than winning the lottery, but not very likely.

Sorry - I have a Math minor. My true geek nature comes to the surface regularly.

I always wonder how to look at those stats. Does it mean that for every 100 condoms used, 2 will fail? and every 100 acts of intercourse the pill will fail once? I have heard that most pregnancies end in spontaneous miscarriage often without the women realizing it, are those considered contraceptive successes?

It is all irrelevant if you turn out to be one small percentage that gets pregnant. I have known people who had gotten pregnant using a cevical cap and condom, who had their tubes tied , and quite a few who have relied on vasectomies. If my guy had a vasectomy I would ask him to get a sperm count every few years. Some people are just too fertile.

Why are you asking the question?

That's basically what the stats mean. Approximately 2 out of 100 condoms will fail and 1 out of 100 times the pill will fail, assuming those are the right probabilities. Of course, the laws of probability aren't exact. You might have 10,000 condoms in a row work followed by 200 that fail. It's just over enough time, roughly 2% fail.

I know what you mean about the pregnancy possibilities. I worked with a woman once that was in her early 40s. She had a son that was a junior in college. Her youngest was 15. Her husband was in his mid-40s. She had her tubes tied, and he had a vasectomy. She got pregnant and almost had a heart attack. She was so stunned.

of someone getting pregnant when she is on the pill and i was using a condom?
OK, i feel bad for ignoring this thread before now. *laughs* my first two were both conceived while i was on the pill and we were using condoms with spermicidal lubricant. Either i'm the exception to the rule or they're all lying and it's a huge conspiracy. ;)

Given the 98% effecienty rate of condoms and the 99% of the pill...1.5% I guess? There are many other factors in this though. How long has it been since she had her doctor checked her prescription and is it still effective? Was the condom fresh or had the two of you been making love for a while?

Sometimes as a woman's body changes, her hormones do too and this can affect her body's reaction to the pill.

Vigorius lovemaking can tear a condom. So can prolonged use.

The 99% effectiveness of the pill is based on perfect use of the pill. Perfect use means taking it at the exact same time, with the exact same conditions (food, no food) every single day. With "average" use, the effectiveness of the pill is only 90%.

Damn!..

That sounds more like divine intervention!

The first son was born while she was on the pill, and just before the second son was born, I had a vasectomy. None since then. So I suppose the only sure way is to have the procedure, if you don't want to have any more children. If you still wish to have children you'll just have to take what cums if you are going to cum in her. Other than that, good luck, have fun and if you can't have fun, name it after me, LOL.

All these numbers and percentages! I'm sure crazier things have happened. I guess the only GUARANTEED course is abstinance but not a favorable option I'm sure. It very well could happen. I'm sure that's the kind of hope people playing the lottery hope for too. Slim to none but hope is eternal.

I place no faith in anything

other then abstinence.

My oldest daughter was a Pill baby, and I got pregnant with my second daughter after I was told the scarring my endometriosis had left on my uterus and ovaries would make it impossible to concieve again.

Point blank, if you're not prepared for the risks associated with sexual intercourse....don't have sex.

Here here! The infamous "RESPONSIBILITY" word creeps up right about now.

RESPONSIBILITY?!!

As in Sexual Responsibility?

Geez Lust...what a concept huh?

I've always liked to remind people that despite how fantastic it can feel the true purpouse of sexual intercourse is reproduction. If you aren't prepared for the fact that you and your partner may be feeling amorous at the exact moment the planets/hormones/whatever align to make you both fertile then you should stay clear of intercourse.

I know I must sound preachy, but the simple fact is, if you had sex with the girl darlin then there's always a chance that you got her pregnant.

The odds are 50/50

Its true, either she gets pregnant or she doesnt. LOL

Nothing is 100 % sure. My wife messed taking her pills and as a result we have a beautiful little girl. She changed the pattern, because she didnt want to be on her period while on the honeymoon. Im not complaining, I'm just telling you what might happen.

That is the whole truth... BJs, cyber sex, phone sex! Those are the only really safe ones... sorry.
