My story, Aural Adventures of Dawn Ch 5 under Interracial has fewer votes today than yesterday but the score jumped dramtically(probably to a point where people will now whack the shit out of it)

You want them you don't want them but hey voters are voters and if its good the score stays up.

But don't live in a dream world theres always someone out there to kick you in the nuts:(

Hi bearlee,

As you may or may not know, we have an automated system which detects and flags fraudulent story votes. Fraudulent voting is when a person or persons attempts to corrupt the voting by placing multiple votes on a story. When this happens, the system makes us aware and we manually sort through the votes and remove all votes - be them 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5's - that are fraud.

Last night, we encountered a great amount of fraud being perpetuated. We are still cleaning it up as we speak.

On a personal note, I want to say that I have absolutely zero respect for anyone who would attempt to cheat the system. Not only are you harming your fellow authors, you are also costing this site valuable time and money. Because of cheaters, we have to pay to have scripts written to detect fraud, and we have to spend countless hours pouring over data. I'd rather spend the time working on improving the writer's area or the editors program or any number of projects...but because people insist on corrupting the voting, I can't work on any of that. It makes me extremely angry, to say the least.

And in most cases, even when I don't have enough hard data to boot an author (yet), I can tell who is perpetuating the fraud. I can also see who is intentionally down-voting their competition. You may think you're so clever and getting away with so much, but you're not. I know. I think a lot less of you for it. And if your goal is to win contest money or dominate the top lists, think again. Cheaters suck.

How much would it take to get some names, Laurelita? Heh heh.

It's a good thing I'm not the webmistress. I'd find some way to punish them. Humiliation, shunning, something like that.

I was in Oceanside just a couple of weeks ago visiting the in-law cousins for the weekend. Damn. One of these days we'll have to hook up.

Ah, so.

Bearlee and Laurel,

Thanks for asking, Bearlee and thanks for answering, Laurel. I wondered why one of my stories, posted over a month ago, had suddenly shot up a few notches to 4.50, giving me my first "H" (oh, be still, my beating heart).

By the way and for what it's worth Laurel, a few weeks ago someone suggested that adopting a 1-2-3 system might discourage folks from voting "1" just to downgrade someone else's score. It'd probably be more trouble setting-up (if possible) than it's worth, but in theory, it might help.

Aaahh, bless the whack in the nuts.

I got an actual real world one today. But someone's nose bleeds for it. Cheapshot bastard.

- And thanks to the fraudulent voters making this necessary only one person per household IP account can vote on each story, and that sucks.

Thanks Laurel, for all of your hard work.

Aaaaawwwww...poor Karma Dog...

PS) Hitch....you might not get it in the nuts if ya don't aim for the "weight" of the matter......

Turned out I was right though. Fewer votes made the story go to 4.70 which put it at the top of list and just I suspected, it got whacked some.

That happened to me today! Rant, rant, rant...

"A Memory of Red" (no plug, no link) did really well its first 24-48 hours, hitting a peak of 4.77 that put it at number one on the Romance top list for a spell. There was some serious rejoicing going on in my lil' house that afternoon.

After that, it moved off the "new" page and settled comfortably in the top ten. I had expected it to fall from number one as more votes came in, but not for it to remain in the top ten. I was so thrilled!

Then, in the last while, it fell HARD. And so did my other submission, "Miss Nova." I was disappointed, but didn't suspect any fraudulent voting going on until today.

The number of votes decreased on both, and the scores went up dramatically. They both have their little "H" symbols again, and "A Memory..." is back in the top five.

I don't know if that'll last, but I just want to say:

Thank You, LAUREL!!!

Thank you so much for looking after us all.

And...

Why would anyone want to vote down my stories? I can only imagine three possibilities:

1- They hated my stuff so much that they felt the need to give it a low vote multiple times. In that case, I'm surprised they made it through the story at all to get to the voting bar.

2- Someone simply dislikes me. Don't know what to do about that one.

3- They're trying to improve the standing of their own story. I don't get that at all. How can you take pride in a high-ranking story if you know that you cheated to get it? How do you improve your writing if you don't know where it really stands?

Most illogical, Captain...

Okay. Rant is now over with.
