I can honestly say I've had two, very wonderful compliments that I replay in my head whenever I need a boost.

1) Once, while watching me sew or paint or craft something for our son to spark his interest and encourage him in whatever developmental stage he was in at the time, my husband looked at me and said, "Man, I wish I had a mother like you growing up." :) Gave me all kinds of warm fuzzies, it did.

2) A man who I respect and admire once told me that I was very much like my grandmother. One would have to know my grandma to know how much of a compliment this is; she was a hell of a lady and I learned a lot from her. If I could be 1/10th the person she was, I'd be very satisfied that I was a bit more than an ink stain on the world's proverbial Rorshack test.

What about you? I'd like to know you better.

Nicest thing anyone ever said to me was

"You make me feel like I'm 'once in a lifetime' special."

Best compliment?

"Who? Her?! Nah... Charlie's one of us boys, she can handle it, she's got your back, trust me"

I was bent over in the shower and the wife said, ewww they're all wet and hairy and hangy-down.....

Subj: Now it's my turn...

Here is an email I got the other day. Best compliment I can recall in a long while. I was helping a colleague sort out a decision she made that blew up in her face.

I just wanted to offer you a heartfelt (and huge) thank you for yesterday! You truly are an amazing coach and I appreciate all of the time you spent and all of the things you said to get me off the bench. I started the day yesterday not knowing how the heck I was going to put one foot in front of the other and felt like I was stuck in quicksand. You didn’t just make me feel better about the situation, you helped me see past it. There aren’t words that can really sum up the amount of appreciation I have for you… but maybe a big ol’ virtual hug would do the trick :)

Thanks for giving me your hand to help me back up.

Very nice. Sounds like you've got a good ear for listening, and a good way of giving a pep talk when needed.

"You have comfortable chairs in your mind."

One of my favourite compliments I received a few times when working as a sandwich hand was "watching you make a sandwich is like watching a piece of art being created". Considering how pedantic a sandwich maker I an I loved that compliment.
The other I loved is "I wish there were more yous on the planet"

I got two so far.

The last thing my dad ever said to me before he died was, YOU WERE RIGHT, AND I WAS WRONG.

And twenty years ago a woman said to me, IF I WAS SHIPWRECKED YOURE WHO I WANT THERE WITH ME.

She said it felt wonderful...I know she couldn't possibly feel shit, I'm packing a fucking button I know I'm not really doing anything but peeking in the gates at best.......but it was sweet of her to lie anyhow.

this shit is depressing.

Probably how nice I am. People seem to think that all the time.

How big my heart is. Of course I'm never sure if it's my heart or my boobs.
