...just over an inch in diameter? I'm trying to come up with a universal visual comparison for a story.
I originally had table tennis ball, but that's too big.

How about a small Kielbasa? Or a little shy of two Oscar Meyers?

Maybe a moth ball?

ETA: Or maybe one of those big marbles?

Large marble? One of those hi-bounce balls in kid's vending machines?

Well I was going to say an American Politicians Brain, but the One Inch Diameter was too large.

About the only thing I can think of is an old Shooter from Marbles. (Does anyon still play that?)

A shooter would work well actually, I'm using "small marble" as another visual aid.
Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if those big marbles were everywhere or not, or what the rest of the world knew them as.

A jaw-breaker?

Vending-machine rubber ball?

US Silver Dollar (not spherical, but it is round)?

If "Shooter" doesn't work, then the ball in a typical rolll-on deoderant is about one inch in diameter -- although larger roll-on applicators are becoming more common I think most people still picture the the original size when they hear "roll-on."

Ping Pong Ball.

It's like miniature tennis!

Miniature versions of sports are pretty much awesome. Although I'm not sure how miniature hockey would work.

a small bird egg? a ben wa ball?

mmmmm ben wa ball...... I think every woman should have a pair.

And they need to come up with something similar for men.

Shooters aren't world wide. Well the name isn't anyway, although the marble itself is. We used to just call them two-ers. (twice the size of an ordinary marble).

We didn't draw circles either, we dug small holes in cleared ground which required such technicalities as "nudgers', 'sweepers' and 'splatter'. We also called the game 'nigs'.

Two-ers were saved as a last resort after you'd lost the rest of your nigs and no one ever played ironies except for 'lends'. (The irony being that the pronunciation is 'ionies'.)

James is right.

The new international standard size for a ping pong ball is 40mm (1.58") diameter.

Boy howdy, that's a sentence I never thought I'd write. I need more coffee....

An eyeball? Many references put it at an inch in diameter.

A modern ping pong ball has a volume of almost exactly 2 cubic inches.

A 1 inch sphere would have about .52 cubic inches.

Small differences in diameter make a big difference in volume.
