What's Going On?

Every now and then I check on my stories to see what rating their getting on(partly for feedback and partly self-importance). At the moment, my story "Friends" in Erotic Couplings is rated a 5. The highest ratings on the toplists are something like 4.8, so something is obviously wrong.

Now I'm pretty sure that Manu and Laurel have a lot on their plates so if either of them reads this early on, don't fret, it's a minor problem. But there are a lot of stories in there, so what I suggest is that people go and check all of their stories and see if there are any wierd ratings. We can figure out how widespread this is first, and save our benevolent founders a bit of a job.

That's probably the rating your story has. It's a great a story, after all. If it has less than 10 votes, it won't appear on the Top Lists.

Flattered But Confused

I thought that a story had to have a few votes before you could even get an average.

Have I just made a fool of myself?

Of course not! And even if you had, you definitely wouldn't be the first...

Mark, if you look at the toplists, you'll see that each story also has the number of votes, like if it was voted on 50 times, or 10 times. Obviously if a story gets about 50 votes, one or more of them is likely to be less than a 5, and thus lower the average "score." But you have a great story, so it's quality (in votes) not quantity that should bother you, love.

Well I would rather have five people (honestly) rate my story a five than five hundred rate it a one. It'd be niice to get on the toplists but I would be happy just to know people like what I'm doing. And if they don't I want to know that too, just not as much .

Well, strictly speaking, you'd need at least two votes to have an average. But even if you only had one vote and it was a 5, you could take some pride in saying that "Every single person who voted for my story gave it a five."

I'd love to do that, but I'm forced to admit that I'm the one who did the voting. *sigh*
