Here's the cake I made for J, although I feel wary of posting it here after Elle's professional cake. :D

It's a regular vanilla cake with a lemon curd and white chocolate ganache filling and white chocolate ganache and fruit on top.

From previous years I've learned that my forte is not cake decoration, so I didn't even try to ice the cake neatly and opted for an "artistic swirl" instead.

Today we're eating out, so no cooking for me. The restaurant seems very interesting, I'm really looking forward to it. :)

I'll take a slice as well please, seela! :)

What is the fruit on top? Because I'm pretty sure it isn't cherry tomatoes and comparis? And I don't recognize it in my crappy little screen.

There's plenty to go around, so hop on a plane and you'll get your slices. :p

The fruit is persimmon, kumquat, yellow plum, passionfruit and I tossed in a few blueberries too because it looked too orange.

Next time I'll use cherry tomatoes. :D

That cake looks amazing, seela! Your decorating skills are better than mine. :)

Yellow plum?
Ohhh... plum is my favourite fruit, and I have never seen this.

I've seen your cupcakes and pies. I have nothing on you when it comes to decorating baked goods. :)

Really? Yellow plums are a pretty common sight here.

Edit: This is probably why you haven't seen them.

"Mirabelle plums
Banned in: All states (Federal ban)
These plums are a protected-origin fruit hailing from Lorraine, France, and they are rarely seen stateside due to some bizarre import laws (though that hasn't stopped a few renegade seed-smugglers from growing their own). But whatever! We have our own plums, and they’re plumb tasty. "

Banning mirabelles and yellow cherry plums? How sad?

They taste a little like greengages. One of the best jams I ever made was from some yellow plums no one was picking and they were left on the grass in a country road. I usually don't bother with plain preserves, but this was wonderful. I labelled it 'golden windfall preserve'. :).

I like the visual of you walking along a country road gathering plums. Makes me smile

I've seen lots of plum trees in people's yards and stuff that have small yellow plums on them (and have indulged quite a few times!). It's only in stores that I've seen the big purple ones. Odd.

There is more than one type of yellow plum. There are the ones seela discussed, then there are hmm, I am trying to remember if they are called bird plums or cherry plums...any way, they can be red or yellow, they are small.

Occasionally you find BIG yellow plums, but it have only found them in shops as fruit, not as trees to buy, so I cannot say anything about the origin or anything. Its good to know they do exist there though. :)

There definitely are small yellow plums that are at least in Finnish called "cherry plums". :)

And at the same time the lack of regulations and food inspectors makes us produce heavily infected meat that has killed more Americans than terrorists could have ever done. It's just so stupid.

I made garlic bread in the morning and the lamb stew is now stewing away in the oven.

A lovely rise on his morning loaf!
It's beautiful! :)

Also, we have the small plums here as well, but just in purple that I have seen. They are sweet, and I much prefer the tart ones so I don't usually buy them, though they are occasionally given to me. When I get them I usually end up putting them in a salad with something more tart, like pineapple, so they taste better to me

PS - Hi kitty kitty :cattail:
