Here's what's worse. There were two, actually. For a year and a half or so.

We now have a good crop of restaurants of that level here, only one of them or two of them rightfully so. (Don't get me started on what people get excited over.) But we had an Aquavit opened up here in the late 90's. It was too soon. In the city that has to have the highest population of Scandinavian Americans, it closed. CLOSED. *sigh*

I don't get to a lot of big food places, but I did get a meal there. One of my top three ever.

I do think if it opened now, it would work. That's the sad part.
It's sad when that happens.

In my town restaurants are with a few notable exceptions either the kind that serves overpriced sandwiches and stuff to hungry students or rather expensive places that serve good food that doesn't ever surprise anyone.
From time to time someone opens a place that is fresh, inventive and all the rave but inevitably it goes bust after a while.

In short: I feel your pain.

These are so yummy!

I also made butter tarts with some roasted pecans on top and peanut butter dainties.

Delivery some holiday cheer to a friend tonight with these and some home made toffee apple kits and wine and bubble baths...

...perogy casserole for supper and I better strap my derriere to my elliptical tomorrow to work it all off ha ha ha

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I have no idea what peanut butter dainties are, but I know I want to eat one!!! :D

Master laughed when I told him I was tired of American food and needed more spice ("don't I always?")

Dinner tonight is pork tenderloin marinated in harissa and yogurt (as I type), with pan-toasted pine nut couscous and tabouli.

Ooo~ I haven't eaten something like this since I lived with my parents.

:)

My husband used to travel extensively but now he is local all the time.
He wants me to prepare beef stroganoff, chicken and dumplings, baked rosemary chicken, my onion roast, lasagne, chicken burritoes, spaghetti with meatballs, meatloaf, etc.

I do make sure that we eat salmon for dinner twice a week though. :rose:

I'm a fan of chicken and dumplings (though I never cook it). Comfort foods are so wonderful. ^_^

Today, I started marinating pork for a family gathering tomorrow, and I baked cookies!

Soft and chewy on the inside with a delicious crunch on the outside.

Those look good enough to eat, Meeks! :p

And hang on there, Serene. You can't just glaze over something like "my onion roast" and not explain what it is!! :)

<pout> Master has decreed no more salmon for him, he doesn't like it and will do FFYS (fend for yourself) if I prepare it for the rest of us. :( I'd love to make more healthy fish choices, but our budget prohibits that. I got some flounder not long ago, and the pieces were absurdly small for the price.

:D they are little squares if peanut buttery nirvana with marshmallows YUM!!

I have my aunts recipe but if you search it you should be able to find it!! I hope you enjoy it if you make it!

Any ideas on 4 pounds of 16/20 shrimp. Sadly they are farmed

For how many people? Scampi immediately comes to mind. Garlic, white wine, a generous pinch of oregano and basil, throw a parmesan rind in the mix, maybe an anchovy or three. Stir it all together for a nice broth, make it simmer, add the shrimp til they turn pink on the first side, flip and pink the other side, and pour over pasta. Easy and divine!

Currently 1. Unfortunately I make scampi about once every two weeks. I am in need of something a little more out of the norm as divine as scampi is.. I suggest adding a pinch or two of crushed red pepper

Chicken is roasting in the oven with squash and pearl barley, beet salad to go with it. And some yummy, yummy Estonian rye beer. It's almost like drinking bread. :)

Vanilla pannacotta with cardamon laced bilberry sauce and toasted and chopped pecans to go with it and some white port.

I love having people over, it's the perfect excuse to make ridiculous amounts of food. :)

That out sounds amazing! And fancy :D

Geez I almost forgot. I also have about 2 pounds of 10/20 scallops.

Ohhhh poor you! :p

This cook is taking a holiday today to attend our SCA Yule event. I'll still be in the kitchen, but I've volunteered as a server for the feast. I haven't been to many events this year, so it will be fun to catch up with friends.
