tricky to me . . . in erotic lit - the point is erotic sex - the one who reads gets off or doesn't, and at the very least is turned on or isn't, and yet there are different degrees. hm. Depends on the story, the length. In a short story I want the action. The quicker one gets into it, the more hot it is . . . to me. But there is the diff. btwn erotic and porn.
In a short story, I could care less where one was born. Character development IS developed in the body of a short erotic piece through dialogue and metaphor as far as I'm concerned - one doesn't need to know the whole history of a character, not even the whole description of the person. I like to place myself there when I read . . . and imagine - since reading is about imagination afterall . . . in order to get turned on.
Writing, and I always equate this is like life - a one night stand - what do you want or not . . . a short erotic piece requires, (porn doesn't) if it's literary, some sort of plot, but in a longer piece - plot and development is more paramount.
The question is interesting, but I can't vote because of what I've said . . . depends.
