If you were able to go back in time and be face to face with Hitler, before he had risen to power, what would you do?

I woulda gave him a great big hug. He really needed one of those, and he woulda loooved it coming from me.

seduce him...bring him to the edge and closer...to the brink again and then sweetly announce "hitler honey, I made some almond flavored cookies for you to try".

I would have tried to get close to him... study his thought process. (What can I say? I want to be a psychologist!)

But... before he rose to power...I think I'd have to slip a lil' something in his late night drink....

I don't think that even J could have performed such a heavy miracle. But he might have shared some nice wine with him.

Knowing what he was gonna do?

Hmmmm......belladonna, foxglove, aconite, hemlock.....

Perhaps ask some fairies for help as well.

As I am a history major, I must put in my two cents before I say what I would do.

Before the man rose to power he wrote Mihn Kamph (I know I spelled it wrong, but it means "My Struggle"). In his book, it outlines everything he intended on doing, right down to the "expermintation" on living people. He wrote his book while in prison. That was the key to saying that the man was messed up. He served time durring WWI, for what I'm not exactly sure. If anyone knows, feel free to fill it in.

All in all, he was a madman even before he rose to power. But you know what? He said exactly what the people wanted to hear. After the first World War, Germany had lost a huge chunk of land as a result of the Treaty of Vercias (sp), and he tried to make it sound like the Jews and the Gays and the Gypsys where the ones that took the land away from the German people. He was a great public speaker, and it was from that ability that he was electer Chanclor (sp).

Now for what I would do:

I would drop bombs on the prision he served time in while he was there so he could never infect the German people with his way of thinking.

Wow...what a choice...let history takes its course, so things are the way they are now, and drastically alter it...

I could never make that call. ever

The temptation would be to do something to prevent the rise of the Nazi Party. This would change the time line for the past seventy years, some would say for the better. But how are we to know. Mussolini or Stalin could have generated a time line as bad or worse than Hitler. A major war at that time in history was inevitable. Hirohito was acting independently in Asia and the South Pacific.

And then we come to the classic temporal paradox. What if you did prevent Hitler's rise to power and as a consequence prevented your own birth. You would not be alive to go back and prevent Hitler's rise... thus you would be born and go back in time and prevent Hitler's rise; Time Loop.

"I hate temporal mechanics" quoted in some form by almost every major Star Trek character. :D

Very valid point, Eagle....

He really needed to be put out of his misery.

He wasn't a very good painter.

He went to prison for trying to start a revolution. I believe it was called eather the "November Putch" or the "Beer Hall Putch". It was more like a country club then a prison. He spent 9 months there. <edit> oops.... almost forgot... It was in 1924 </edit>

He coulda used some work on that sorry excuse for a mustache he was rockin'...and the hairdo...sooo last year.

Thats a damn good question!

Was Hitler a man choosen out of time? If he had been killed say as a child would another have risen up in his place?

How much control do we have over certain events? We like to think a lot, but do we?

I would

I would have kept on walking and ignored him like do to most arrogant self absorbed men.

What a question.
After thinking really hard (and for a very long time), I still have no answer.
Hitler really needed to be eliminated before he put his crazy ideas into practice.
However, I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to do it.
Yep, total coward over here.

I'd tempt fate and let time and paradoxes do what they will.

BANG.

I would honestly take the Terminator Two approach, and tell him flat out what he ends up causing...

I mean, how would I deal with someone coming into their past, and telling me I became one of histories most hated people and that I had to die? You know?

Kick his half-mustache wearing ass all over the alps!

I know the initial reaction would be to eliminate his sorry ass.
However we're talking about going back in time and changing it, with the murder of one of the most hated men in history.

My answer would be, Nothing.

Everything the transpired during WWII was pretty much a blue print for society as we know it today. And as it has been mentioned before, there is no way of knowing that it wouldn't hvae been worse with Either Stalin, Mouselini or one of the other nut cases.

Eliminating Hitler before he rose to power would change the world as we know it today, completely.
