In the end, I agree with you, something isn't quite right about the post. But in Singapore, "oriental" is used rather than just asian - distinguishing Chinese from south asians (indians). In the Gulf (Dubai, Saudi Arabia), as in Britian, Asian means Pakistani and Indian, Oriental means Chinese or Japanese. Only in the US do you stop using "oriental" for people....
