We all find our common interests in words, stories, whether fiction of non-fiction. Sometimes it is our entertainment, sometimes its our inspiration for stories of our own. Usually, people who like to write also like to read, so post what you are currently reading, maybe a synopsis of the subject, and the author.

I'm currently reading P.N. Elrod's Vampire Files latest entry entitled 'Song in the Dark'. The series is about a young free-lance reporter, Jack Fleming, who gets killed by mobsters in 1930s Chicago, and then comes back as a vampire. He hooks up with a private agent to use his supernatural powers to solve cases and deal with life on the edge of the mob.

This is the 10th book in the series and when I finish, I may just go back to number one and start re-reading the whole series in order.

Currently I am reading Frankenstein.

Hey Avellan, how is The Fall of the Templar so far? That is a topic I enjoy reading about (fiction and non).

It takes the view point of Knight Templar Sir Will Campbell. Here`s a short summary.

AD 1295. The Christian empire in the Holy Land lies in ruins. Returning to Paris, Sir Will Campbell is at a crossroads. He has sworn to uphold theprinciples of the Anima Templi, a secret brotherhood within the Order whose aim is peace, but peace seems even more impossible.
The Temple has forged an alliance with Will`s enemy, King Edward of England, vowing to help him wage a war on Scotland. Will now faces a bittrt choice; to stay wth the Temple and fight another war he doesn`t believe in, or break his vows and forgo his own path to peace even if that too means fighting... for the Scots. Will is unaware that an even more ominous threat is rising, for there is a warrior king on the throne of France whose desire for supremacy knows no bounds and who will top at nothing to fulfill his twisted ambition. The fight for the Holy Land is over, but the Templar`s last battle has just begun.

I love the book. It`s based on historical accounts and makes you sometimes feel like you were actually there.

Are you enjoying it? I definately need to add that to my pile to read.

And to Thyri:
Sister, good idea to start this thread here! My book pile is growing already! :rose:

Start with Wolf of the Plains, that's part 1 of the series.

I enjoy the series, partially because I've always been a fan of Mongolian culture.

Thanks Niriate! I will definately have to check it out.

Loved it!!! What are you thinking of it?
(Assuming you have read the series .... do you have a favorite brother?)

Oh yes I have read them all! I always love the one I am currently reading but I think I have to say my favorites are Zadist and Bella. The current one I am only about 120 pages into the 620 but so far so good - Im not a huge fan of a lot of 'Lesser' detail. Oh and I love Rhevenge! I was just pissed that in his book there was more fighting than sex! *cranky*

Finished 'Song in the Dark' today. Good read as are the rest in the series! I'm going back to number one since it has been ages since I read it, and work my way through the whole series again. :)

Unsympathetic Magic by Laura Resnick

(I am on an Urban fantasy/ Cyber punk kick)

I completely agree with the preference of sex over fighting. And I pretty much love all of the brothers ... Zsadist is probably one of my faves, along with Rhage.... though i like V's kinks (and his relationship with Butch) and Rhevenge (i read his book first so i think i have a fond spot for him!)

I love the original brothers ... not too sure i am going to love all the newest recruits.

A Quantum Murder by Peter F. Hamilton

Near future sci-fi mystery type deal. Second in the Greg Mandel Trilogy.

Excalibur, third part of the Warlord Series by Bernard Cornwell, a fairly authentic, gritty take on Arthurian legend in Dark Ages Britain. I strongly recommend it.

Belay that.

I strongly recommend anything Cornwell writes.

Cornwell is an extremely good writer, and very accurate too.

My personal favourite series is the heretic series, ofcourse the 3rd book makes me laugh since reading the notes on how he got his story and he writes, the first chapter is based on a battle that happened in this particular village, but the rest is completely made up.

Although the things I wouldn't recommend are the sharpe series, and his modern era books. His forte is definitely ancient britain
