What was the latest thing you ate or drank that was entirely new to you? What did you think of it?

Me? Beer battered cactus pads, and they were pretty damn good. Crunchy, succulent (well duh...), they might have been more about the texture than the flavour (but the beer came through, which in many beer batters it just doesn't) and it was a very pleasant element of a taco filling.

That sounds yummy. I experienced salted caramel Irish cream. It’s delicious!

Great thread!

Not super recent, but the last one I can think of was having Saganaki for the first time, back in January. It was at a Greek restaurant in the mountains and it was absolutely amazing. Brought it to our table, lit it on fire in front of us and then put it out by squeezing a lemon over it.

Best. Cheese. Ever.

I'm sure there's other new things I've had since then, but it was the most memorable. I'm sure I'll be able to add more over the next week.

Off menu red curry soup dumplings at a chef’s table private dinner. I wanted to sleep inside them.

Nothing exciting, but I tried nākd salted caramel bars yesterday. I liked them. Apparently they’re hard to get hold of though, so I guess it’s going to be a short lived new favourite lol

Stunningly mundane here, but raw kohlrabi sticks (vegan friend's snack selection). Very bland, but I hadn't had it before.

Salted caramel bacon pecan pie.

With black pepper ice cream.

Which turned out to be delicious!

Sea urchin sushi.

Liked the taste, not the texture, and I can usually deal with texture.

Fresh dates, and streuselschnecke.

The dates... I was not expecting a crunch, or anything so starchy. There's a kind of a nutty hint there, too, and a deceptive sweetness. Don't think I'd go out of my way for them, and they are expensive, but I can see them being good in a muesli.

Streuselschnecke - this was a perfectly adequate snack. Nice sweetness, nothing at all wrong with it but nothing extraordinary. I'd say it was like a much better version of an iced finger bun. Loses points, though, for looking ugly.

Pocky a Japanese treat...tasted like unsalted pretzels dipped in chocolate. It wasn’t bad.

A purple bell pepper. Really good!

Ooh... what's that like? Sweet? Leaning bitter? I've had red, orange, green, yellow and white, but never even seen purple on the shelves.

I just pan-fried some egg spätzle as a base for a quick lunch. Really nice! Crunchy and soft, like a cross between pasta and a good chip. I'm definitely going to add this to my list of staples.

I haven't had anything recently, but I am subscribing to get ideas! :D. I tend to try to make new dishes regularly, but I think I'm in a rut at the moment. AKA boring.

While making dinner, I discovered a bag of plantain chips I bought ages ago, so gave 'em a try. Just ready salted, nice and simple.

Pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good. Moderately starchy, more satisfyingly solid than most similar potato crisps. Better than a pack of ready salted Walkers. Probably wouldn't buy again, but that's a combination of my having great options and having a world of things I still want to get to.

I have been eating some really good Columbian food lately. It is really good. I guess it helps my current slam piece happens to be Columbian.
