When I'm in the green, I'm a fucking machine.
The routine of the military did wonders for me.Son has ADHD pretty bad, some days he is more focused than others. But always tell him "he can do it" and try to limit the distractions when he is doing hw or studying.
He wants to get in the military and become a MP, because thats what his Dad did, not sure if he will really like that, but support him none the less.
I am more red than green at home. At work I'm 100% green. Now to get those two sides of me to meet...
Girl, SAME!I am more red than green at home. At work I'm 100% green. Now to get those two sides of me to meet...![]()
I have no doubt it will be great for him with the structure, I'm just not sure if he will actually like being an MP since sitting around watching and doing paperwork are not things he enjoys much. But who knows, maybe he will enjoy it after allThe routine of the military did wonders for me.
Outsourcing the tedious executive functioning tasks helped me focus on the higher level thinking my brain craves. If I have to remember to brush my teeth and feed myself I find I can't problem solve as easily.
Most people don't realize the military is very much "hurry up and wait". Just like they don't realize that "military grade" basically means "lowest bidder".I have no doubt it will be great for him with the structure, I'm just not sure if he will actually like being an MP since sitting around watching and doing paperwork are not things he enjoys much. Oh I know all three plentyMost people don't realize the military is very much "hurry up and wait". Just like they don't realize that "military grade" basically means "lowest bidder".
Idk if it’s ADHD, but I have this too, though sometimes the songs are louder & more persistent than at others.I don't know if it's ADHD... Do you all have music constantly playing in you head? I do.
It's like a constant nagging soundtrack, right now I have two songs competing for my attention. I just saw the Elvis movie so one is "Suspicious Minds", the other is that obnoxious 90s pop song "Don't Steal My Sunshine." FFS! Just shoot me!
There's always something playing in my head. One of my besties used to always ask "What's playing?" and she'd try to get the most annoying things stuck in my head.
I used to be a House DJ during my troubled early adult years. I would, at that time, have tunes constantly playing in my head, flipping from one to anorher and pick out the ones I thought would sound good when mixed together. Sometimes I could arrange whole sets whilst sat at work (when I was meant to be thinking of other stuffI don't know if it's ADHD... Do you all have music constantly playing in you head? I do.

Those are very good questions. I do not have an answer to that. My guess for depression and anxiety would be that they are a result of the way we feel based on our behaviors related to ADHD? And by the external views of others sorta like what you shared in the quote below.Has anyone been given an explanation for causes and how ADHD presents?
Some effects are what I suspect to be the symptoms and others could be the effects. I feverishly studied many different mental health issues when my oldest son got arrested on a 5150 (dangerous to himself and others) when he was twelve. He was officially diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and oppositional defiance disorder, but it took a lot of digging and study to reach that conclusion - one that he agrees with even 13 years later.
As for ADHD...
Is depression the result of insecurity based on constant self analysis? Is it from over-thinking situations and fretting about missed opportunities, dissatisfaction with living situations? Not everyone with ADHD has depression, I've known musicians and artists who can channel it for creativity, though honestly they weren't necessarily happy all the time...
Some people have hyper-motor control issues as the result of their diets. I've known parents of ADHD kids who saw a complete turn around in their kids when they started the Feingold diet.
https://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/childhood-adhd/what-is-the-feingold-diet Really, check it out. My wife was a Waldorf preschool teacher who witnessed several families struggling with ADHD change their diets and find relief.
My father had a sensitivity to corn that made him hyperactive and agitated. If he avoided corn products including corn syrup he did well and had great amounts of patience. I have lots of environmental allergies, a lot of them effect my breathing and make me feel jittery and agitated, discovering that lavender is one of them and avoiding it greatly improved my life.
That must have been really hard to hear as a child, thank you for sharing with us. Glad to hear you had teachers that connected with you.OMG, yes. As a kid growing up positive reinforcement is critical. I heard everything my parents said about me and was haunted at night hearing the echoes and trying to figure out if it was worthwhile for me to be in this world as a kid.
"Why can't you just sit still?"
"Your sister loved that teacher when she was in his class, what wrong with you?"
"Why are you always chewing on your sleeves? "
"You lose everything!"
"We should have stopped after our second kid."
“Don’t embarrass us!”
"He's not bad, he just doesn't know how to act."
"You'll never be able to hold a job if you can't ____." ( fill in the blank)
"What's wrong with you?"
" What's wrong with you?!"
Nevermind the cross dressing issues...
I was suicidal from about 11 to 17, mostly by taking on hazardous dares, challenging my right to exist and giving fate ample opportunity to take me out.
I had a couple of high school teachers connect with me and recognize some talents that didn't show up on report cards. I honestly think they pulled me back from the brink.
I'm always singing in my head, does that count?I don't know if it's ADHD... Do you all have music constantly playing in you head? I do.

So many people get diagnosed as adults! It's wildNice thread. I was finally diagnosed with ADD at around 50. The doc I was seeing at the time for scripts for depression thought Ritalin would do the trick. I could not stfu for hours. My son dealt with ADHD as a kid and finally refused meds. He didn't like the way meds made him feel. He got his Master's in Fine Arts a while back and my first thought was, "See you mofo's. I knew he could do it. "
It's been my experience that what those w ADD and ADHD have in common is the ability to hyper focus on things that interest them, which can be hard for those without these issues to understand. It is an unseen disability.
Interesting video! I never realized before that the way I tend to act in new relationships is due to hyper focusing. It gets me in trouble because the guy always thinks I’m waaaaay more invested than I actually am, usually.I obviously didn't think this thread through and created it on impulse but I'm glad you all got the conversation going!!
I was watching this video on relationships and adhd
And then I thought about how I am in relationships and what are some of the issues I've had in relationships in the past and oops! Have any of you giving this any thought? How does your adhd affect (positively or negatively) your relationships? And if you are in a relationships with someone that has adhd, I'd love to hear from you as well.
Esp females. So many people get diagnosed as adults! It's wild
Yes!Interesting video! I never realized before that the way I tend to act in new relationships is due to hyper focusing. It gets me in trouble because the guy always thinks I’m waaaaay more invested than I actually am, usually.
I think another way ADHD affects my relationships is getting distracted during sex… I’m sure that’s at least part of the reason why I’ve never orgasmed with a partner.
I’m sure there are more… I’ll have to think about it.
Omg yes! I thought about that watching the video. But also the "getting bored" easily. This has been even a bigger issue. And since I hyperfocus, I may hyperfocus on other things and sorta forget that i have a boyfriendInteresting video! Now that I've been diagnosed I 100% think this is why I have a hard time reaching orgasm with a partner. I mean I even get distracted during masturbation. That's why I can't have music or the tv on.I think another way ADHD affects my relationships is getting distracted during sex… I’m sure that’s at least part of the reason why I’ve never orgasmed with a partner.

So sad that this is true!Esp females.

I've managed to make it work in our marriage and what she says about being honest and authentic is key because it is always interesting. And challenging.
We did meet and marry within three months, though.
Lolz
It got me thinking that even with sexting is an issue. Like if he takes a little too long then ny mind wonders off and is hard to get back to it.OMG, me too. So annoying!
