What the hell is wrong with Phelps.

I just read this and it absolutely turned my stomache. I know that homosexuality violates a lot of religion's morals, but whatever happened to loving your enemy and embracing sinners? I can sit by and keep a mild mannered show smile on for christians who think I'm a sinner, but follow those tennants of Christ's teachings. Shit like this makes me want to break things. Sorry I just had to rant about this one, it really got to me.

Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention.
Let me just say:
*If I was Phelps I'd be haulin ass to find somewhere to hide.
*If I was Shepards parents, I'd be finding Phelps ass and beating him. Or ok, suing him. But truthfully, my first instinct as a parent would be pain, lots of pain.
*If I was the community, I would tear it down as fast as stupid-ass put it up.
*If I was Phelps congregation, I would seriously consider going elsewhere, as to not be associated with this sick individual.
*If I was God, or The Good, as Phelps obviously thinks HE is, I would put my arms around Shepard, hug him, and tell him it all begins and ends in the same place.
Love alot everyone ;)
and piss on Phelps!

Fred Phelps is sort of a hero-in-reverse of mine...it takes a special kind of man to hold on to unreasonable hate for so long without burning out...maybe he maintains it by spreading it to his family and congregation. Such purity of purpose, dedicated to such a corrupt cause; you wonder how much good he could do if he wasn't such an evil bastard?

I sent this message to the city countil members of the city this is being erected in.

If anyone else would like to send them a message about what's going on the site with all their e-mails is

I recently read about your problem with Fred Phelps and the monument he wants to erect having to do with Matthew Shepherd's death. The article I read which was on http://www.365gay.com said you were trying to find a way to fight the monument. I have done some thought on it and I would like to propose a course of action.

Let him put the thing up. But have someone else design a coresponding momnument. Have the corresponding monument be devoted to the fact that in this country we have the right to do or say whatever we want. Our power is free speech. Don't try to deny him his constitutional right, but instead encourage others to exercise theirs alongside him. Have the monument which is erected next to (or in my opinion even better around) the Matthew Shepherd statue speak of the fact that the monument Phelps is putting up is a monument to the fact that we live in a country where we can be whatever we want. Where I can go and have a wedding ceremony with another man even if it isn't legally recognized, and no one will try to arrest me, where two male lovers or two female lovers can curl up at a concert in the park and show affection in public without being dragged away for being "deviant". Have the corresponding monument thank Phelps for being so brave as to erect a statement to those very freedoms in this country. Phelps once said with a smile on his face that you can't preach the true word of God without being hated. Show him we don't hate him. Show him we are better than that. Show him the most he will ever get from us is pitty and thanks for reminding us we live in a country where he can say those things as loud as he wants and we can ignore him and keep on loving whom we want.

Damn. Mighty fine plan, Cigan--let his victory be turned into ashes. Thanks for the links.

Honestly...I never believe in God so much as when I'm confronted by someone who I can only explain as being used by Satan.

I've sent a letter as well. They will read these, I am told, at the next council meeting.
God will find a way.

I got a very positive response from one of the council members. They said they were going to focus on how to deal with the situationi without spending tax money on litigation and that all suggestions would be put forth at their next meeting. I hope more people from this board and elsewhere write them.

Awesome cigan! I'm so glad there are friends of your kind out there.

Um. One question.

How exactly is one allowed to erect a statue bearing the likeness of a person without the consent of that person (or in this case his family)?

They can probably get away with it by saying that hes a public figure.

Those Phelps rats make around here and picketed churchs that support gays.

So instead of counter demonstrating people came out with brooms and wherever they walked swept the sidewalk behind them. Like they made the city dirty just by being in it. That was very cool.

I get unbearably pissed off when discussing the Fucktard Phelps.

The governments laws in Australia would prevent it getting off first base.

Its fucking horrifying shit. Really.

I like that idea a lot!

Irrational hatred...unfortunately isn't limited to "bad" people. Paul the apostle was on his way to damascus to persecute christians when God knocked him from his horse...He bacame the single most effective evangelist in christian history... keep that in mind

Haters always find rock solid reasons to hate...though I can't understand why...Protestants vs Catholics, Sunni vs Shiite..it goes on and on forever

As a protest I will meet anyone from the site to commit "forbidden acts" ... hows that for an offering ?

First off, I find Phelp's behavior to be absolutely reprehensible.

In addition to sending an email to the city council, I would suggest sending one to the head of the Baptist Church of which he is a minister. They should be made aware of the outrage that a representative of their church is causing by his hateful actions.

I would think they're already aware, what with his lovely contributions of godhatesfags.com and godhatesamerica.com.

Excuse me for resorting, but Phelps is nothing but a bitch in sheeps clothing.
But, here's the thing. THIS is what he wants. He wants US, against him. He wants US to look like the abomination. And thats great for him. But, for us, we have to live the way we do, our "lifestyles" or whatever it is you prefer, because it is US.
We have to deal in our hearts with the Lord. Ever hear of THOUGH SHALL NOT JUDGE? Phelps hasn't. Or he HAS, and thinks he is mightier than Gods word.
Excuse me again while I am a hypocrite, I SHALL judge and say that Phelps can go screw himself.

Just me

Phelps IS the head of his church and his 'church' consists mostly members of his [very large] family. He has a few other members but his children and their children are the main people. I also believe that several of his sons are lawyers, and help him in his pursuits.

I once read a very long and detailed article (book?) on the web with numerous details about the raising of his children from two of his kids who escaped his clutches. Apparently he and his remaining faithful children have a sort of commune. His children bought houses all around his so they have their own little community.

Someone needs to protect his butt. (heehee)

What I love most...

is that Leviticus also says that

it is forbidden to eat fat(7:23),

that a new mother shouldn't enter a church until 42 days after she's given birth(12: 4-5),

that all beards must have squared corners(19:27),

and that we may purchase slaves from neighboring states(35:44).

What's next? Is Phelps going to put a big statue of a Big Mac up and inscribe on it that all who eats the forbidden fatty burger shall burn in hell?

This guy is ridiculous. He's not religious. He's just a fucking hypocrtical homophobe, hiding behind the badge of religion.

MATTHEW SHEPARD, Entered Hell October 12, 1998, in Defiance of God's Warning: 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.' Leviticus 18:22."

Man, that`s a vile evil shitty thing to put on a memorial, i hope the guy that wrote that plaque goes to hell

Yeah its more like his extended family than a real church. And the way I understand it, with Baptist Churchs they are so independent that the head office cant do much of anything about them even if they want to, which lets face it they really dont.
