Had not read it in a long time. My parents subscribed me to it recently to fill out their Publisher's Clearinghouse form or something like that.

It's not the same. What happened to the old slightly right of center, law and order journal of the Cold Warriors? It's become a magazine full of health tips and celebrity news. They don't even put the table of contents on the front anymore.

This was the magazine that broke the story about the KGB funding most of the anti-war movements of the 80s, (confirmed in Christopher Andrew, The Sword and the Shield (based on smuggled KGB archive files)) now it's running huge stories on Princess Diana, ugh!

I think it's changed its audience away from middle-aged men to middle-aged women. Of course those middle aged men it aimed at before were the Depression WWII guys, too. The women are baby-boomers.

You should try the large print version. Makes Diana seem larger than life.

You know, it's bad when someone who is not evil dies tragically.....but I really hate it when someone's life gets blown out of all proportion to their contribution...

I like Reader's Digest..yes, now it has the celebs and such, but the same old articles are still there, and it's still a very informative magazine. It covers political issues/current events plus the hollywood stuff, so I think it now appeals to more people. I personally like the collections of short humorous stories, like Campus Comedy and Humor in Uniform, etc.

If it were a car, what it was before would have been an Oldsmobile, now they're trying to spruce it up.....understandable to try and reach a diversified market, but then again a lot of other magazines do those things, too.....those other stories make it that much less of a good bathroom read
