Is it just me, or has our economy gone to shit, so to speak?

Why is it that we live in such a greedy, self serving world? I know it's not only the US out there that's experiencing harsh times and a major depression. But can we really blame it ALL on the president?

High gas prices, raised taxes, poor housing capabilities, stores and private businesses being closed and turned over to the government; all effects of our economy. Even the new health care plan trying to be passed.

Is it really smart to turn things like our social security over to the government?

Aren't they the reason for all of this in the first place?

The way I see it, I think that our Democracy is being slowly but surely being turned into a communist/dictatorship.

Hell even some of our rights are being overlooked!

But do we do anything about it? Why do we sit on our assess and let the government throw is into turmoil? Our self greed? Laziness? Lack of will? Or is simply a level of scaredness?

How can we sit back and watch it happen?

I think that the president is just as much at fault as we the people are. We were fucked long before Obama came into play.

But don't get me wrong, he's done a major part on screwing us over that much more.

Anyway, these things were just on my mind. Wanted to see how others felt as well.

Everyone can bitch and debate specifics.. the housing market, spending, taxes , regulations, unemployment, wall street ...

but trying to put it all together and see the bigger picture
not so much

Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to copy your thread. I figured there might have been some up, but I'm sorry again!

I was not trying to insinuate you were copying anything. No worries.

I think everyone wants answers instead of finger pointing. I mean, how the hell can people keep giving more and more and more fucking money in taxes, fines, donations, etc.. And this country is STILL getting more broke and in debt each day? No one can satisfactorily explain that shit to me and, yeah, I am really fucking pissed off about it.

History provides the answers. There really is nothing new under the Sun, so where have you seen our present circumstances before?

The answer is: In the decade before the American Revolution.

In a nutshell British corporations bought all the commercial rights to America. King GEORGE got a diaper load of money, and the pols got piles of stocks and dividends from the corporations.

Shorter JamesBJohnson: Doooooooooooom! Gloooooooooooom!

You didn't ask a question, what kind of answer are you looking for?

I thought it was obvious. How does the US get out of debt? I was looking at the bottom line of how badly in debt the US is. I no longer care how we got there. We are beyond that point now. I DO know the average citizen damn sure did not put the US into debt.

I want someone, somewhere to explain to ME why the fuck we owe so much money to foreign nationals? I know that I did not borrow the money or make any pledges to support someone else's sorry ass.

Sorry post back so harshly JS, but I am truly upset.

Short and sweet: When any one interest is allowed to dominate in a market economy for too long and with too free of a hand bad things happen. One interest dominated, 911 gave a very free hand (along w/ some lies) and very bad things happened.

As to what to do about it ....

He was asking permission to go postal on Congress. I would have thought that a question better suited for Lit's gun nuts than its economic experts.

Uhmmm.....not postal. Just lock them all in the same room together until our economic crisis is resolved. Hopefully, they will be forced to to their jobs without crying about stupid stuff or playing the never-ending blame game.

And, truthfully, my offer of furnishing them with sleeping bags and packed lunches is a bit of a stretch.

Bottom line is we cut spending and raise taxes
it may take awhile but, as long as we start bringing in more money that we spend
we'll get out of debt.

Cut spending, yes. Raising taxes is not always the answer because our local, state, and federal government cannot budget or manage the money we give on taxes now. And why would bringing in even more money be the answer when someone, somewhere is spending more than we already bring in?

No, TW, I am tired of playing that game. And you should be tired of it too. It is insanity. And the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

We've been in debt before
we'll fix it and go back in debt again.

It really is as simple and as complicated as that
increase revenues and decrease spending

That is the problem we have in this country these days. Most people think the same thing. We pay taxes for roads, yet we have to subsidize now with toll-ways. We pay taxes for schools, yet the bulk of that money goes everywhere but to the material the kids are suppose to learn from. Our property taxes are on homes and land we buy with our own money (already taxed before we get it), then taxed even more when we add something to that property or home. We pay for permits to do this and that. We been paying for wars in the middle east, then taxed on that precious oil and gas. Tough times for oil companies they say? Yet those corporations are having their biggest profit gains in decades, while refusing to lower the prices.

The list of crap just goes on and on.

Mankind has out grown the planet. Our natural resources will soon be depleted. War will increase as we prey upon our neighbors for their resources. Mankind is on the cusp of world wide war centering on religious intolerance.

You can read all about this in the Book of Revelations. The time is at hand. Repent bitches. Before it is to late.

Heather, we probably have the greatest energy resources in the world. If exploited, IMO, our economy would explode.

Our regulatory agencies need to have their legs cut off at the knees.

You've just seen what Obama has done to the Keystone oil pipeline, because it requires more study.

I agree
lets barrel ahead and potentially destroy local wildlife and an important water source.

Fuck the environment!

Actually, I know for a fact that we are in debt to China over 4 trillion dollars a day, plus interest. I meant there's a lot of under the table things and crooked things as well going on. But, that hasn't changed in decades.
