How far you can go on a gallon of gas. I can't believe there is a need to regulate this. The only explanation I can see is way to conspiracy theorist for me.

they need to regulate this otherwise the oil industry would put presure on the automotive industry to keep fuel efficiency pretty low no matter how great the demand for ones with a higher fuel efficiency is. personally, i think it should be higher, something on par with what European countries demand. the standard Euro issue Ford F350, the big trucks, get 35 mpg compared to the 20 or so the US issue ones get.

Has a little to do with it too. The less weight the engine has to pull, the demand for fuel is less. Take for instance my Harley. It weighs about 400 lbs, has a 74 cubic inch engine, and a Kehin carb. I weigh about 250lbs, and I have a 3.5 gallon gas tank. That tank of gas gets me about 105 miles before I want to put gas in it. That's roughly 35mpg for my old motorcycle, the newer ones get 40-45mpg. Plus they're more fun than 'cages!'
