I have an idea... This may sound crazy, but I think it may just work. If you want a serious non-partying thread, how about you START one?

I feel your pain, Flagg & Lasher. I too like a little seriousness among the levity - I like variety. If the board were all seriousness or all partying, it would suck. However, if you just sit back and let everyone else start threads and don't take the time and effort to start a serious one (and a thread like this one doesn't count, I'm afraid - this is of the "bitching and moaning" variety, not "serious debate"), then you really have no one to blame but yourselves.

You're all big kids - no one's forcing you to read anything you don't like, and neither are they keeping you from talking about any topic you you choose to discuss. To sit back and expect others to somehow read your mind and know what you want out of the BB is a little unrealistic.

If your response is going to be "but I'll start a serious thread and they'll party all over it and ruin it", then my response to that is until that happens, that's just an excuse on your part so that you don't have to put in effort.

I'll tell you what I tell the people who complain when there's too much debate and argument on the board: quit reading the threads that upset you, and go start a thread that interests you. There's room on here for everyone, so long as we all show a little tolerance. I don't enjoy every thread on here - just as I don't enjoy every show on television, nor every song on the radio - but you don't hear me campaigning to change television to a nonstop lineup of my favorite shows. Not everyone is like me, and I'm glad - the world would be boring if they were.
