What song or musical arrangement really moves you?

I am listening to Loreen McKennitt's "Dante's Prayer". There is something about it that transcends the day-to-day detritus that seems to cling and weigh me down; never before have I been so deeply touched by a song. It has inspired for me a vision of my life in which it is like a valley viewed from a mountaintop, a surprisingly pleasant view. The only sad thing is I have owned the CD for quite a while, but never took the time to truly listen until now.

Mood Music

Actually I have quite a few that touches me.

Now call me a sap, and flame all you want.
But I have a thing about disney songs.

"True to your heart" from Mulan makes me feel good.
"You'll be in my heart" from Tarzan, Well the title should speak for itself ;)

Just to mention some.

I LOVE MUSIC!

If I were to list every song that moves me, I'd be here forever! (Not like I'm not here all the time anyway!) I like that other song from Mulan, not sure of the name, but the one that goes, "when will my reflection show who I am inside" (which is probably the same one that Xander was talking about, and I just don't know the title) And I could name songs from country to rock to classical, and everything in between that move me in some way. Ugh, ok, I think I've lost my train of thought, if I ever had one to begin with, so I'll be going now! :)

I have to agree with Xander, I never heard a Disney song that I didn't like.
My all time favorite that keeps my heart singing would have to be...."SOMEWHERE OUT THERE".
Other songs, other than Disney's, would be:
"I'll Write A Song"-Earth, Wind, & Fire
"Paradise"-Genesis
"Just The Way You Are"-Barry White

I'm not alone!!!

I always thought it was weird for me to like those Disney songs so much but it looks like I'm not alone in this. That Tarzan one that Xander mentioned always gets to me. Actualy I like alot of songs that are from cartoon movies. They usualy go emotion, especialy Disney ones that are for cartoons that have serious moments.

so many....

I am an abstract random thinker. I tend to process my world emotionally. So I am not surprised it is difficult for me to answer this question- so much good music out there that resonates within me.

Just about any song off of U2's Joshua Tree.
"Lush Life" as sung by Johnny Hartman on the album, "John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman"
Countless of 70's songs that remind me of when I was a little boy (i.e., AM GOLD type shit "50 ways to leave your lover," "Love Train, and I think it goes... Good mornin' "Merica, how are ya / Say don't ya know me? I'm a native son? / I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans / I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done...)

Snickerdoodle loves Tarzan!! I sing "you'll be in my heart" to her at night to put her to sleep or when shes just in one of her moods when she needs some extra lovin!!

You Shook Me (all night long)

AC/DC. That's most of the time.

Sometimes it's: Funk 49 - Joe W. and James Gang.

Sometimes it's: Voodoo Child, Slight Return - Jimi.

Sometimes it's: Peter Gunn.

Big, loud, rhythmic - electric guitars are in my heart - as always.

Hmmm

Unchained Melody rocks...beautiful song...also, songs that touch me are..."One Voice" By Billy Gilman and "Alive" by Edwin...Makes you feel good to be "Alive" Grins KitKat

What song does my heart sing? Let me just check. *Puts hand on heart and listens.* Hmm, I think it goes something like 'ba-boom ba-boom ba-boom...'

Okay, sorry for that joke. Really bad, wasn't it? :)

Anyway, some songs that really move me, huh? These are just a few. I'm an emotional little guy, and the theme song from 'Seinfeld' could probably move me to tears.

"Bulletproof... I wish I was" by Radiohead
"To forgive" & "Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins
"Anna Begins" by Counting Crows
"Sweet Lullaby" (I think that's the name) by Deep Forest
"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails

Oh yeah and finally...

"Fight for your Right" by the Beastie Boys...

Such a moving and inspirational song :)

Its in heavy-play rotation

Ride of the Valkeries-Wagner
Up-Great Big Sea
White Hot-Red Rider

Confusing you betcha'

Ri Na Criunne by Clannad

Or if I'm feeling funky

Green Onions by Booker T & The MGs

Crazy, by Patsy Cline. I've always loved the song, but it's never meant more to me. I'm really starting to wonder......

Wild Thing......

da, da, da - da da.....

You make my "heart sing".....

da, da, da - da da.....

You make everything........ groovey

You move me.....

dom, dom, dom, dom.....

Wild Thing, I think I love you

dom, dom, dom, dom.....

But I wanna know fo show

dom, dom, dom, dom.....

Etc. -

Via Chip Taylor the author - John Voight's real life brother by the way and an aquaintence of mine too. (yeah, name drop alert - so what!)

PS - Patsy Cline (of Winchester Va fame - yeah! All cheer for Virginia) sang it and yes made it hers - but Willy Nelson wrote it.

Right on, Kitten Eyes...I actually posted the lyrics to that song on here somewhere a while ago. I like almost all Celtic music, actually.

As for what moves me, it depends on what mood I'm in. I was listening the Burn by The Cure just now. Last night it was Enya's Exile.

One band that moves me without fail is Rush. There's a message and a purpose to their music, beyond "Oh baby you left me, but I'm sorry and I want you back". There's a lot of messages about society and personal struggle in their songs. Listen to "The Pass" sometime and you'll see what I mean.

Anne Murray singing "Could I Have This Dance?" It is OUR song. Ballroom dancing is one of the things that brought us together, and we made this the first dance together at our wedding reception. So yes, this song speaks to my heart:

I’ll always remember the song they were playin’
The first time we danced and I knew
As we swayed to the music and held to each other
I fell in love with you

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Would you be my partner every night
When we’re together it feels so right
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life

I’ll always remember that magic moment
When I held you close to me
As we moved together, I knew forever
You’re all I’ll ever need.

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Would you be my partner every night
When we’re together it feels so right
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life.

my 2 cents - oh, dear, i'm almost out of pennies

Many different types of music and musicians speak to me, just depends on what mood I’m in.

Right now, I can’t get the music from Jesus Christ Superstar out of my head…
“Buddah, is he were it’s at? Is he were you are?
Did Mohammed move the mountain, or was that just PR?”

Anything by the late Rich Mullins--
“Birds have nests, foxes have dens,
But the hope of the whole world rests on the shoulders of a homeless man.”

Expertise: Wagner? I’m very impressed…have you ever heard Anna Russell’s commentary on the Ring cycle? Hysterical…
“Seigfried…was very young, very brave, very handsome…and very stupid. A regular Little Abner…”

We love Clannad, their music is amazing. I also like Caeli's Muse, they are no longer together, but I have their CD's. "You Were Made for Me" by Jewel is our song, it was playing the first time we made love & I knew he was the one for me. Some of the music done by Blackmore's Night is good, some not so good & my sweetie loves Loreena McKennit.

Whenever I hear the Corrs do Hendrix's "Little Wing" it just blows me away. I spend all day singing the whole thing, violin solo and all.
Then as soon as I get home I have to play it on my Steel Guitar- which comes out somewhere half way between Jimi and Andrea. (Which could be a pretty fun place to be!)
"Our Song" is "Let it be Me" done more or less in the style of Melanie.
