I'm talking more about singers, and yes they could have played an instrument, do you miss from time to time now that they are gone.

I was watching a video tonight with my Wife of John Denver in concert (yes I'm a fan and I always have been), and realized how much I missed hearing new songs from him. I actually had tears in my eyes as I sang to some of the songs. What can I say? I'm a sap.

Lobito, Jim Croce was my all time favourite when I was growing up. Time in a Bottle is an amazing ballad.

Jim was another guy I grew up listening to, great writer/singer/performer.

Harry Chapan was another one.

oh no! he's not dead, is he?

Kenny Rogers

When I was little, I thought God must look exactly like Kenny Rogers. And I saw him in the Atlanta airport when I was eight years old. He didn't die, did he?

I think someone was fucking with us on Kenny Rogers. Though one never knows.

Nobody here would probably have heard of him, but I really miss Ray Brown!

Ray Brown fronted the 70's band here in Australia called... "Ray Brown and the Whispers."

Although they haven't recorded anything in a long time they used to get together and play some of their old hits.

Sadly, Ray Brown died a few years ago.

Whenever I hear his music, I feel sad, and wish he were still here.

I DID THIS THREAD BEFORE BUT........

Earth, Wind, & Fire
Queen
The Police
Teddy Pendergrass
Barry White

i miss Sandy Denny (fairport convention) i wished i'd seen her
the voice of an angel

Shannon Hoon from blind melon, his lyrics were so meaningful to could have you crying

john lennon ... he died 2 years 2 months and 6 days before i was born but i missed not being able to grow up around the time he would of been writing songs and commenting on the world as he saw it ... the world i was growing up into

Ella Fitzgerald. She was, in every way, the Queen of Jazz.

Genesis. I know no one's died, but since Phil left the group permanently, it's been absolute trash and he's done nothing good.

Was going to say Jimi Hendrix but he's more of a musician I think.
JazzMan, I was going to say Ella Fritzgerald. Great minds I guess.:)
Instead, I'll have to say Etta James.
She was pretty cool. Wonderful Voice.

John Lennon
Marvin Gaye
Karen Carpenter - not crazy about her songs, but an amazing voice

I miss Lennon.

What a mind.

and BTW... I know a LOT of professional singers and if you say that singers are not musicians in their presence, you may be taking your life in your own hands.

:D

well you may have done it before, but it's been a while, ok?

BTW, I said gone, as in dead. So only dead ones count. Even for you JMJ. :p

Jimi Hendrix does count, because he was the lead singer after all.

There are lots of great singers on this "list", too bad many of them are gone. :( The good thing is, we've got their music to keep us company, practically forever.
