I realize that the sentiment toward matters like these is probably starkly contrasted between my age range/nationality and that of other people here so I won't go into a whole morality tirade, but regardless of anyone's opinion of it, 10 years?! There are Nazi death camp staff who've had less years than that.
Apparently just invalidating the marriage contract isn't enough, no, they must go to prison for a decade?

Father called me after nephew's game this AM so I could give him the schedule for rest of season, since he (doesn't know how) lost the E-mail of it my sibling gave him.

He called me for same reason last night; I answered once, & had another voicemail from last night waiting for me after today's game. (Told me last night he didn't call my sibling, b/c he figured they'd be busy, but he could call me.)

I'm not PO'd exactly, more like frustrated and aggravated. Ever have one of those days where you're a complete klutz? Today is my day. I swear if I drop one more item, spill one more cup of coffee, walk into one more door frame, trip over one more of my own feet, I'm going back to bed with cookies and staying put. I am a hazard to myself today and am glad I'm home all day, otherwise I might be a hazard to others as well!

I have been looking for chairs for G's home office this week. I am proposing to him a kneeling chair ( to support his posture) or even an ijoy machine so he can exercise his waist while seated. I would actually love to have made an office chair I have had in my head for a long time, but it would be prohibitive to have an engineer make a chair for him, even if we would both use it.

Oh, the poor guy was totally embarrassed and I just pretended I hadn't noticed. If he had offered to buy a new chair, I couldn't possibly have let him. It was just one more issue to deal with in a day already choc full of tasks and deadlines, so venting my frustration here helped me keep the smile intact in real life

One more moan - like you, we are all very fed up here as we sit indoors in the cold, watching the torrential rain whilst listening to reports of a heatwave in other parts of the U.K.

Although in all seriousness...in case there's any qualms people have about vaccines here: Andrew Wakefield, the physician who brought the supposed danger of vaccines into the public eye, was receiving money from trial lawyers and other big pharmaceutical companies to create the (fraudulent) study that supposedly linked the MMR vaccine to autism. The reason for that was that they, as well as he, were planning to make millions of dollars worth of pounds from filing lawsuits against vaccine manufacturers which they planned to be successful since his study, had it not been instantly dismantled and disgraced, would have thrown into question the safety of vaccines and forced their retraction. The big pharma' companies would then begin retailing their own 'autism-free' vaccines to supplement the retracted ones.

So yea, fraud through and through.

I still remember Carson Daly getting a flu shot on "Last Call" (bnack when he actually appeared on-camera with any of the guests).

He said something to the doctor about getting a shot of the flu, & the doc said, "Yes."

Carson replied to the effect of, "OK. So if I get the flu, I have (forget the #) witnesses who saw who gave it to me."

Reminds me... I have my usual "general doctor" appointment tomorrow, where they're likely to ask if I want one, & it's not happening. When I called to schedule my first appointment of 2016, they said my doc of years had been promoted to Director of Medicine there. They scheduled me with a "nurse-practitioner" (telling me first & last name but no title). This year, have seen 2 NPs (one of each gender), bt have yet to get a doctor to replace the promoted one (like it was my fault that something happened good for him, but bad for me).

Watching Theresa May spew crap that is directly in contradiction to known and well-documented facts regarding grammar schools that she must know to be untrue in such a brazen way I can't help but wonder how much of her party's campaign funding is coming from private schooling corporations.

This should be in the politics thread but GRRRR.

Examples;
"We want equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome."
Grammar schools necessarily create unequal opportunity in education and to add to that they massively reinforce that inequality by diverting resources away from the majority of children in normal schools and towards the kids in the grammar schools. So you bias the system against the majority and in favour of the minority. That is literally textbook inequality of opportunity.

"When we look at the impact of grammar schools, between economically disadvantaged and advantaged children the attainment gap is virtually zero."
True, but when you look outside of grammar schools you find that there is a direct correlation between exponentially larger attainment gaps and the prevalence of grammar schools. The average attainment gap between the affluent and poor kids in normal schools widens maaaaasssiiveelllyyyy. It's currently about 7%, in areas with many GS's that widens to about 20%.

One of the main reasons grammar schools were shut down is because it was demonstrated that they only serve to reinforce that rich-poor divide though! They naturally favour the kids from affluent families (to such a degree that the vast majority of students in GS's were from families in the upper economic percentiles) because affluent families have a strong tendency to hire private tutorage! So even if the selection is totally unbiased it will naturally favour the rich kids anyway!

It's just so disgustingly brazen.
