Who is the William F. Buckley of Literotica?

Cheyenne? She can count and remember stuff but she's stifled by a thin reading list and very little historical knowledge.

WD? Sometimes reasonable, sometimes juvenile quite possibly the idiot Safire of the group.

Lost Cause? Dated and gruff. Still calls people commie who disagree with him.

Miles? Todd?

Or, maybe I don't participate in the threads that hold no interest for me?

Actually, my worst category in trivial pursuit is Entertainment, followed by geography questions. I have never yet gotten a question correct about the contents of different alcoholic drinks, and I can read a map, I just don't memorize them! :D

BTW, I never claimed to be a political expert of any kind. Not my real area of interest- you must have me mixed up with Lavy, Uncle Bill, Miles, etc.

 Whats with the new av, Marxist? goodness!

Ohh, I have nothing to say about the topic, just curious about the av! :)

Marxist likes to tease and taunt us with his av's.:)

Keeps us looking at his threads.

Cassidy,

That is a pretty wicked one, babe. I even prefer Denzel to that one.

Can I be the Al Franken of the group who writes books about the others?

Only if I get to be the board Tavis Smiley.

BET execs. upon firing the talk show host were overheard to say: "We want less Farrakhan and more Chaka Khan. We want less black duty and more Black booty."

Things are so poor around here I've considered becoming a conservative just to make it a little more fair. Y'know, I could put on a Stetson and become Ken "The Black Avenger" Hamblin. He's smart, Black, and conservative. I can't listen to his show, but that has more to do with his sycophant "Good Ol' Boy" fans than anything else.

Maybe I could be Tony Brown. Does anyone even know who who he is? Anyone? Alone again......

yes, some of us do

know who Tony Brown is. :)

Depending on the day, some think I'm Angela Davis and others think Susan Taylor(or maybe just in my dreams) :)

Conservative, umm, interesting word. What do you think I am Dixon or Marxist?

I haven't been in this forum often. Have no idea about the dynamics here. Most like it, love it, tolerate it?

Peace,

daughter

Yes, I know Tony Brown! He used to do a show on the local NBC station in DC called "Tony Brown's Journal". He would talk about issues and problems facing the black community here in DC. He's extremely intelligent, educated, and informed, and doesn't mince words. Tony would raise issues that nobody else in "mainstream" journalism would. What is he doing now, Marxist?

Tony Brown, (former?) conservative Isle of Man politician, PBS television commentator, syndicated radio talk show host, author.

In his book, Black Lies, White Lies: The Truth According to Tony Brown, he attacks the political and cultural attitudes of both blacks and whites that have perpetuated racism and fostered a black underclass in the US. His overriding message is that blacks must obtain economic self-reliance in order to achieve the solidarity and power that alone can give them true freedom from prejudice.

Additionally, in his stint as Research Investigator, Research Center for Group Dynamics, he was involved in research concerning the epidemiology of mental health/illness, race-related predictors of young adults' well-being, and risk and protective factors for licit and illicit substance use. He worked to develop a stratification framework for empirically examining the psychological costs of racism for Blacks, and the mental health benefits that some Whites receive as a consequence of racism.

I copied all that from other sources because i didn't have a clue who he was and dislike feeling ignorant even though i rarely participate in political discussions here.

I think you dress to the left from what I've seen.

"Tony Brown's Journal" still shows on my local PBS station. He did a killer show on the discounting of African origins a week or so ago followed by a show on Black determinism a la Hamblin. He doesn't come down square on any side, but he's pretty much an independent Black Republican. That club is so small it could hold meetings in my guest bathroom and still have room for a pet baby elephant.

Yeah. He used to be part of my Political Geek hour here in the DC area. I'd watch "Firing Line" and "Tony Brown's Journal" back to back. That was perhaps the most intensively intelligent hour I've spent on television.

Than I'd follow it with the Justin Wilson program. Nothing says fun like Cajun Cooking. :)

Actually, Cheyenne, I don't claim nor argue much if at all from a political perspective. My arguments are almost entirely philosophical or moral/ethical. The political perspective is only one facet of philosophy.

It happens that my political affiliation is Libertarian because they are the only group who fully and consistently advocate freedom.

Were there no Libertarian Party, I would vote with the Conservatives/Republicans most of the time simply because they are much less inclined to institute a collectivist totalitarian form of government.

My major disagreement with them is that they still advocate that it is the legitimate province of government to dictate certain personal, private decisions to the individual. Too many of them seem to be convinced that their religious beliefs should be instituted as laws to define morality for others.

Granted, they are not so extreme and oppressive as the Liberal Left, but they are still a bit scary.

Oh, my

Marxist says I dress to the left and Unclebill calls the Liberal left oppressive and extreme?

I'll withhold my political views for now. Plenty time to get folks bent. :)

Peace,

daughter

Don't forget collectivist totalitarians, to boot. :) Welcome to the jumbled fray of Lit's General Board, daughter. :) We're not nearly as polite, but the fast-paced discussions and disparate perspectives are sure to hold one's interest.

Intellectual? Not me. Well, ok. I DO use my brain, but, not using it is SO much easier,(and funner. This that a word?) But, I TRIED reading a Tom Clancy novel,(speaking of politics,)and, I got lost within the 1st 30 pages. Like Alan Jackson said,

"I watch CNN
But I'm not sure I can tell ya,
The difference in Iraq and Iran."

BTW-Cheyenne, I'm an Entertainment FREAK, so, if you ever need the answer at Trival Pursuit, PM me.;)

But you never fail to give us Right Wing snippets from dubious sources.....

The Left Wingers are never gonna convert the Right and vice versa so at the end of the day, do we care who is what?

thanks for the welcome

Mischka. I'm going to try something different-- lay low a bit. :)

Work is stressin' me. I just wanna hang out a bit and chew on some interesting conversation a bit. Nothing too heavy.

Peace,

daughter

I just want some well thought out opposition for once. That's what this thread was supposed to be about. The Right does have a point but it gets mostly lost by the infantilism of the Conservatives onboard.

Rick, care to put down your cock and / or backscratcher and join the fray with something other than a one-handed one liner?

Nope. Left the dictionary in the car.

Maybe he could have long ass posts like when you were a newbie. Maybe he should stop the biting one liners and start talking about the plight of the heterosexual white male. Then he can call us all man-haters and reverse racists. That would please people and he could be just like you. :p

Lavy,

No beef with the Rickster from this perspective. Political posts, as you know, sometimes require length and thought and I thought that since he stuck his head in that he'd like to contribute.

Regarding his one-liners, I preferred PC and Dix the first time around.
