on saturday five people who i went to high school with were involved in a car accident. one of the drivers was drunk, this is her second DUI incident. she and one other survived, but the other three died.
i know/knew all of the people involved. one was in several of my classes. i tutored him in geometry. he was the man of his house when his father left him, his mother and his little brother four years ago.

i cannot fucking believe this happened. every one of these kids could have done something with their lives.

how difficult is it to call a cab, call a friend, or just put the fucking bottle down if you're going to drive?

The part that is unclear is the rationalization that "it just won't happen to me" even if it has before.

I remember leaving the bar.. alone..

I remember getting in the car..

I remember thinking I'm not to drunk

I don't remember the drive...

I remember waking up the next morning..in my left hand car keys.. my right hand my purse.. in the driveway my car..

I remember thinking... NEVER AGAIN.. that fucking freaked me out.. how can you not remember driving home?

3 months later.. my brother was killed by a drunk friend driving my brothers truck... the friend lived.. has he learned? Nope.. killed someone else just the other day.. Hopefully the 3 strikes out law keeps him in jail forever.

I'm sorry to hear about your friends..

sorry to hear about that lexie but I agree.

any accedent' the fucking rules are there for a reason... why can't people just listen to them?

Lexie, I am so sorry to hear about the accident. I think it is very difficult for people to admit that they have had too much to drink. I had a lot of those leaving the bar, waking up in my driveway & wondering how the hell I managed to drive myself home. I was very lucky when I was younger. I drink very rarely now, but when I do, I am at home or I have someone drive me. It is especially hard for young adults. They feel that they are invincible & no matter how many accidents they hear about, they are convinced that it will never happen to them.

I'm sorry to hear about this Lexie. Freaky and I were just talking about this very thing last night.

My story is much the same as hers, I was coming home from work one day, noticed at the local bar, a friends car, and stopped into chat them up a bit. 7 hours later I had had too much to drink, and I was at home. I haven't a clue how I drove home, even though it was only 2 blocks, I simply do NOT remember.

I can't say I've not had a drink since then, but I don't drive anymore, after I've been drinking. I can always stay at a friends home, or call a cab, or better yet, call a family member, they'll understand, even if you think they won't.

Lo
