What One Thing Do You Like To See In A Poem

i'll start with,

concrete imagery
I know more of what I don't like to see in a poem, than what I hope to see--thanks to many literotica poems. ;)
I like to see interesting line breaks, and other things that I'm not allowed to mention since you stated only ONE! lol

communication: language can be quirky, fresh or unusual, meaning can even be _____________conveyed with structure, but a poem needs to say something

Something new - a word I have to look up, a reference that tweaks my curiosity or a fresh voice.

Plain speaking. I don't like to wade through a bunch of watery inferences that I may or mayn't understand. Tell me what you mean, then dress it up for the hoi polloi.

an unexpected link made between seemingly unconnected things-- within the poem, and between the poem and myself-- an AHA! feeling

What without the dumb and fun?
Even somber and dull intelligence, yes. (If "dull intelligence" isn't an oxymoron.)

I do like fun, though. You know I do. La la la la!

It would have to be punctuation, and I'm not allowed to mention anymore. Grrr WSO!

I lied
I want sex
not all sex but jjust a hint or two
see I stuttered up there thinking about it

I see, so when you say "link," You mean "LINK."

All is clear now....

yes. in the biblical sense.
I want to feel like I have been somehow invaded
or at least had a nipple tweaked

Orgasms!

You get plenty of them on Lit.

She was begging for it
So I stuffed my weapon in her mouth
Thumping the back of her throat
Before dowsing her in cum

Some of the best laughs I've had are imagining the sex fantasies of some of Lit's poets.

That little verse is a parody of mine, I just haven't got the imagination to describe some of the impossible contortions that are imagined.

the more profound the imagery the more intersting the poem I agree :rose:

Intelligence

Intelligence.

Yes of course intelligence, but isn't this a trait of the poet?
What I would like to know, Tzara, 1201, RainMan is:
How do you want to see this trait of intelligencemanifest itself in a poem?
How do you like the poet to use their intelligence? To what end?

My brother is extremely intelligent, but his poetry well, um, kind of sucks, even if it exudes intelligence.

Most of the things people have said they wanted to see require a certain level of intelligence.

hehe get a load at that annagirl buggin on other people's opinions

I'm slim balling up to anna here. Intelligence as is verbal intuition, is an asset to the poet but not something that is unique about a poem.
