And you thought it was something sexual, didn't you?

Ongoing research into how a forum ticks. What kinds of topics or post threads will you respond to MOST OFTEN? Out of the list, what will you respond to first? What gets you going?

Yes, but now that I'm here, I'd say mostly sexual discussions, though I think you should allow more than one choice per voter.

Anyway, what I really respond to is threads that still have low response counts. I like threads that are fresh. After the first few replies, what needs to be said has been said, and the small talk sets in.

Well, the question is just what you are MOST likely to post a response to, or what will attract your attention FIRST.

It's true -- there is a definate trend toward wandering attention in longer threads, which can be dissapointing to people who come late into the discussion.

I go where my mood caries me. I will grvitate tot he political threads, but have gone long periods avoiding them too. It's all in what my moo dis like.

I'll post IF the title and the limited view catches my eye. If not... I don't. I prefer writing/personal issues but occasionally a social or "world news" thread catches my eye. I also like the "this thread has no point" things, as it gives me somewhere other than the NFH to leak out some of my constantly spastic mental blurts.

I post all over the place depending on mood...but I tend towards "flirty" or legitimate writing discussion...

I read political threads sometimes, but I rarely post...not worth it...

The presence of known hot avatars...

Come on, I know some of you guys invaded EVERY thread in which Sincerely Helene was in during the 'bent over' AV... or the Duckie Av... of Yui's bikini Av.

I know it's like the same picture, but I want to draw out more of instances of it so I'll respond to everything they post in the hope they'll respond.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I seem to be with the majority: my mood guides me to post. I prefer fresh threads, but that won't stop me from posting in a long one in an attempt to lead it back on topic.

I don't do political threads, but I have read a few. It's mostly a case of not knowing enough about the subject, but also because it's like talking to a brick wall. Like religion, which I don't mind discussing, people are going to believe what they want to believe and you can seldom, if ever change their minds.

And the title or the preview has to grab me. There's lots of threads out there. Most of them I have no clue from the title what they're getting ready to ask or discuss and often the preview doesn't help either. Make it catchy or I'm making tracks. To another more interesting thread.

I tend to prefer topics that are being discussed, not 'fluff' threads, though I'm as guilty of fluff as some of the others.

I avoid endless threads, because there's hardly ever, if any discussions in them and I consider them to be 'post pumpers' ... they're there for newbies to get to 100 posts so they can have an avatar. Or even for the dedicated post whores so they can have a title.

Okay... so seriously...

Number 1 factor in me Responding...

If it's on the first page... I don't go back pages.

Sincerely
ElSol

So it's not my opinions, so much, that interest you? :( ;)

I’ll post on just about any thread, depending on my mood. I’m a bit like Lilred in that I don’t think anyone reads my serious posts, and it makes me frown to be completely blown off when I’ve put some thought into a post, so I’m primarily a drive-by poster.

I've noticed that as well, although I haven't learned my lesson and stopped. I have posted frequently about things I've thought on hard and long and about which I (foolishly?) think I've something worthwhile to say -- and then someone right after me says "hi" to someone two posts before me, then a third person says "hi" to that person, and it's all gone, ignored, completely disregarded.

I know that many people cannot resist the social impulse or perhaps suffer from the kind of short attention span encouraged by the constant stimulation bombardment of the Interwebinet -- they come in to see what's going on, perhaps with intent to join into the conversation, and then get distracted or can't think of an answer...I don't know what it is, but it does discourage some of us from trying to substantially converse.

That's one reason I posted these two polls -- I'm curious about what people think they do as compared to what I observe them doing. I look at myself this way and I look at others. It keeps me busy, and provides a lot of fuel for writing.
