What makes a good picture so good?

I've been looking at porn for years. I remember when the Sears catalogue did it for me. I remember when my sister's 17 mag did it for me (when I was 12, they had a story on underwear for the 17-year old). I remember when Maidenform bra ads did it for me (I never knew where she was going to turn up). I remember when Victoria's Secret catalogues did it for me.

I remember when Playboy, then Penthouse, then Hustler did it for me. I remember when Forum did it, then when Family Secrets did it, then a whole array of hardcore fiction did it.

I remember when HBO porn did it (the same as hotel porn). I remember when pay per view porn did it. And I remember when hard core odd German tapes did it.

Many of these things still work for me, but at heart this is what makes a good picture good for me:

I like amateur photos of women, men, men and women, women and women (but not men and men). I like white cotton panties better than diaphenous negligees and other fancy lingerie. And I like the stuff that is more out there, but is still accessible -- amateur photos of pregnant women, of lactating women, of peeing women -- as well as less hardcore stuff: women posed in their undies; up-skirt photos; and women in their sweaty workout clothes. In other words, real life sexy photos, amateur photos.

I start this thread to ask the same of anyone else who cares to post here. Fortunately for you all I don't have a digital cam, so no pics of my dick or any other part of me. But if you want to, please post the types of pics you like.

Lastly, the one kind of pic that no longer does it for me are the factory made photos where the models are clearly posing and not doing whatever it is they are trying to convey.

You are always so kind to me and I was delighted to see you start a thread. So I will share my opinion.

Actually the pictures I like the most are the teasing ones of men...ones in jeans, or underwear perhaps parted to show his wonderful cock, hints of his stomach, his chest, his shoulders, his neck. Why I do admire the close up "cock shots" I am always drawn and most excited by the ones that look so temptingly casual. One that makes me want to beg for him to show me more. Yes i am in agreeance with most of the points you have made there. I have checked out a lot of porn over the years (being male its kind of compulsory! not that i want to discrimante against femal porn lovers) and i too am coming to the conclusion that i dont like the full on staged type porn which is churned out by some many places. I prefer the amateur type photos, where what is happening is a little more spontaneous. Not so much of the "yep thats it hold that dick there" lets get the shot... too staged and contrived. Much better is the amateur who just point and shoot and if they happen to cature a very sexy looking pic in the moment, then great... it just seems so much more honest and raw. I like that!

To answer your question first, I enjoy a variety of pictures. To read the start of this thread I would have to agree and say that I also used many of the types of pictures that you did to do it for me, but now the amateur photos seem to do the most for me. Then to use the word that The Dipsomaniac used and say that its must be the spontaneous aspect of the picture that excites me the most.

I think that it has to do with the enjoyment that I receive when viewing those types of pictures. The person that is shooting the picture tends to reflect a type of enjoyment in doing it. They do not think of it as a job and therefore have no restriction on what they do.

This same type of excitement is also reflected in picture that center on a theme. A person or couple get an idea that may turn them on and wish to share that with other people and of course in most cases they are looking for response of others to see if it turns them on also. This interaction is also enjoyable to me and I think to the other parties or participants in the thread.

In staying with what I am talking about I think that subject or subjects of this type of photos also use their photos as a fantasy outlet which plays to their sexuality both couples and singles that post. The bedroom can get boring in a lot of relationships as they goes forward in life and this type of outlet can “spice up” the boredom that seems to creep into them. I must admit that I have seen where “glamour shots” professionally done has had the same results as amateur photos do. But I tend to think that those types are more on a personal one on one type of enjoyment where the subject is doing the shots for one person and not intended to be shared with the world.

Also it is my opinion that with the professional type posed shots, most people viewing the photo tend to think that the subject as having to do the shots, so hence the enjoyment is not as present as in the amateur type. I know that this does not apply to everyone but just my opinion. I have on objection to a person’s right to post any photo that they want to, but I tend not to comment on those types of photos.

In closing it just the same old thing, if it feels good do it, don’t worry about what the other person thinks. But I might add if you do see a post or thread that you do not agree with, don’t ruin it for everyone, post your comment and move on. This is a big board with a lot of different forums to voice your opinions.

I will add though, that even though i am swaying more to the amateur type shots these days (redclouds kicks arse - http://www.redclouds.com) there are still *some* professional type shoots that *can* capture the moment. Unfortunatly for me they seem to be getting fewer thats all.

And to finish on, i like you end comments about posting. Sure be honest in your opinions and replies, but in a place like this where we can all be on an equal footing... there is no place for down right rudeness. A lot of good posts ... I think that anyone who has the nerve, desire, whatever, to post their pics, that's a show of honesty and vulnerability (or megolomania). I don't think bad pics need to be pointed out as bad pics. On the flip side, good pics should be noted and well responded to. Why bother responding to bad ones, unless asked directly to do so? It helps no one and hurts the posters. and it's not being dishonest.

Something else to consider...

Commercial porn tends towards brightly lit gynaecological type shots, where absolutely nothing is left to the imagination, and that (for us, at least) kills any erotic thoughts. Sure, you get to see a pussy (or dick), but hell, it's like going to a doctor. There's no sexual excitement. Unless you are into doctor/patient roleplay, that is.

Our personal preference is for softer photo's where something is left to the imagination, where we have to fill in the blanks, so to speak. We can construct any scenario around the pictures we want and fit it into our idea of an arousing context. The mind *is* the most powerful sexual organ, make no mistake, and it allows us to get excited looking at a cotton panty covered crotch instead of a split beaver special...

On that basis, the photo's we take and post tend to be softer shots where not everything is on display, so the viewer can fit our contribution into their fantasy...

One last thought on why amateur pics "do it" for us, and please don't confuse us with soppy adolescents when we say it...There's often a lot of love shown in amateur photo's. In a lot of the pictures we've seen and liked, we can almost feel the love the photographer has for the model. Soppy, we know, but that's the feeling we get...

I couldn't agree more. But sometimes it's not always love. Sometimes I read into it a bit of anger or betrayal or excitement or "oops I had no idea what I was getting into." Regardless, there is real feeling behind them, and like K.C., I see a lot of love.
