In another thread it came up again and again how most of us had a thing for cars so just was curious.....

For myself, I drive a fourth-generation Trans Am, third Camaro/Firebird I've had. I have this almost adoloscent thing for muscle cars.

Can almost blame my dad who bought me a Fiat Spider when I was 16, and then a Pantera (anyone remember those?) when I was 17.

Any interesting car stories out there?

Well first you have to provide us Brits with a translation...

I could answer "truck" without hesitation ('cos I do that for brass [=bucks]), but what's a VW Passat estate (with trailer) translate into in US-speak?

Oops, sorry.....haven't had to speak "european" since a Danish boyfriend and I split...(although I still call soccer "football", which really confuses people here)

I would probably translate that into a sport-utility, or truck for this purpose.

Glad I'm bucking the trend.  I used to be smart...

I just got a new(well in the sense that I just got it) Chevy Blazer, its a big ass 4x4 monster and I love it, thought I feel a little dykie in it sometimes. Other than that it's my lumina, had it for 12 yrs and it runs like a bitch.

Now if you asked me what I wish I drove?.......Either a Caddilac STS or an Escalade, in black. I'm a whore for luxury autos.

I drive a turbo-charged VW Jetta :D (sports sedan), but my true passion is for motorcycles. I love all cars, especially fast ones, but there truly is nothing like two wheels and the open road.

Funny, my husband just offered, last week, to buy me a Cadillac STS, and I turned it down. Might wish later on I hadn't, but I love my muscle car!

(I used to have a GMC Sierra Classic, ran great and I loved sitting so high above most people, but I always go back to the little fast ones)

I drive a VW Golf. How does urban utility translate into US lingo?

truck, I suppose. Shoulda incluced a space for "sports-utility", but they're basically trucks.......sorry.

Hmm... Sorry, it's definitely not a truck, but ok. Call it what you want. :)

"Truck"?  Really?  To me "truck" starts at 7.5 tons (the toys) and goes on up from there (17 tonner next week).  What I've got is a saloon (sedan?) with a square back-side, so the boot (trunk?) goes all the way up to the roof.

But thanks for trying, Cloudy.

What I drive,

I drive a 1988 Dodge Caravan, ( rear seats removed so I can fit my dive gear and camping equipment in it, along with two mountain bikes, etc.) 199k miles on the beast and it still gets me where I need to go. (I do all my own work so I don't get screwed.) I also ride a Kawasaki 454 LTD when the weather permits it. (Most of the time here in South Florida.) On the other hand I'm almost halfway through building a dune buggy. (Fun car to drive as long as you're not competing with large trucks.)

Yeah, those are "sports-utility" vehicles here.......like I said to Lauren, should have included that as a choice......my bad.

But sedan sounds so big... a Golf is more an oversized urban compact...

I dunno, but you're quite welcome to ask! (just beware of the growls......but his bark is worse than his bite, most of the time)

Currently, a Nissan 240SX. It's a nice car; it handles well, it's pretty, and I don't have to be stuck behind anyone I don't want to be stuck behind. However, I didn't so much choose it because it was a 240SX as because it's a Nissan, which I think is a very good car. Its predecessor was a Sentra that logged over 200K miles before it finally crapped out. I suppose one of these days it'll have to be replaced, and I'd like to replace it with another Nissan if I can. And when I do, I will employ the same standard that I used (or, my husband; I confess he shopped around and found me this car) in choosing my last one: it will be in good shape, presentable, and I'll be able to afford it without a series of payments that bid fair to last longer than the car does.

IOW, I'm not one of these car buffs. To me, a car is a device for getting from Point A to Point B. This is a result of my dad's passion for Studebakers, which he kept on getting even when nobody could fix them and you had to special order every part from where? South Bend? I forget. The big mystique of vintage cars is a closed book to me. No matter how picturesque it looks or how much money some collector would pay for it, if it doesn't have air conditioning and you can't get parts for it, it's more trouble than it's worth.

Car stories, I am full of car stories.

My first car: a 1976 AMC Pacer
My worst car: It's a tossup between the Pacer and the Citation I got to replace the...
First car my husband and I got together: 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix
Most powerful car: the '76 Olds Cutlass, which got me a speeding ticket in St. Martin Parish. You could not expect a car with an engine like that to stay at 55mph.

rgraham666: you live somewhere that has a muscular, well-developed public transportation system, right?
