what is your ratio of reads to votes

I just took a look at my submissions list. There are five submissions, they have been looked at about 35,000 times between them.
Now I know that a substantial portion is discarded before the reader is finished, but the total number of votes among all five submissions is 136.
That translated to one vote per 260 readings using my calculator (always a suspect process, I am a writer, not a mathematician.)
Is that a normal type of ratio?

In my alternate pen name, where I write across a wider range of categories, I have 144697/820=177 views per vote, with some of the stories picking up a vote for around every 40 views.

In this pen name, limited to horror, fantasy, humor, and chain ( low readership cats, but many more stories and chapter stories ) I have 299261/1639=183. I have some pulling in 1 for every 30-40 views as well.

First time I've ever actually taken everything as a whole before. I assumed the percentage would be a lot lower on this pen name. A lot of my readers download my chapter stories to read offline ( I write long stories and chapters), and their votes vanish into the ether the moment the next Lit sweep comes through.

Evening, Mark. It's a wee bit quiet tonight.

It depends partly on the category you submit to. The heavily read categories draw more votes.
Anything from 150 to 300 to 1 is normal.

It shows you how many readers get to the end of the story.

I don't think it's about them getting to the end. My poetry is very short but I still get only one vote for every 35+ views. It's just voter apathy I guess :p

The heavily read categories draw more views too, though. In the end, it looks like it more or less balances out in the view-vote ratio, with the strength of the story determining how many people will take the time to vote.

How many of those votes are legitimate, or otherwise survive the sweeps is another thing entirely *laugh*

This was for stories only, from personal experience and what has been mentioned in other threads. I have no experience with poetry submissions.

Besides, if it's a good stroker - do they get to the end? :nana:

That's not apathy. I have six poems posted - all lousy, although I like my sonnet and my illustrated triolet - and the ratio of votes to views ranges from 1:237 (the best) to 1:1022. That's apathy!

for my stories, the highest is 1:115, and lowest is 1:559.

Poetry: highest is 1:17, lowest is 1:116.

quite a range in both.

My stories range any where from 97 to 512 views per vote. Voting on poetry is practically a waste. Very few readers bother to vote or comment on poems. I'm considering turning voting off on all my poems, while still allowing for comments. I think the majority of votes that I get on poetry are from readers who follow all my work... and I already know they like my stuff.

My best is 109:1 (on a Celebrities story). My worst is 370:1 (on an Erotic Couplings piece).
And unlike common wisdom, I don't see Romance as particularly more voted on than other categories.

Don't even ask me. People either hate my stories and back click or are laughing so hard they forget to vote. I'm not sure which :(

5 Stories = 491,951 views 1,239 votes = 379:1

3 Poems (Recently deleted) = 4,800 views 57 votes = 84:1

As an aside and simply for what it's worth, I note that when I post on the forums my scores take a huge hit. And that is pretty much across the board. Sometimes as much as a 10 point drop.

I noticed a similar phenomenon during the contest and thought I was just being paranoid.

 You want me to do math...nope nope nope...no ratios on summer break;)

Lets just say they are pretty bad really...i have many times more views that I do votes. I've given up expecting votes at all really.

I just did a quick check and found ratios ranging from 1:150 to 1:500+

Apparently, the newer the story, the more votes per read. The 1:150 ratio was for my latest story, The Experiment (see below).

Perhaps themore dedicated Lit readers who are on the lookout for fresh stories are also more motivated to vote?

Mine ranged from 1:29 (the last chapter of seven, posted in Romance) to 1:283 (the fifth of six parts in Mature). I started to do the average and got a headache. Maybe later.

Being essentially lazy, while I was prepared to do the calculation by hand for six poems, for forty-six fiction pieces I wasn't so keen. I already have a Perl script I can use to extract score values from a saved text version of the submissions page, so I ran it and pasted the values into a spreadsheet, and added a column to do the calculation. Sad case, aren't I?

Values range from a best of 1:54 for a romance to a worst of 1:880 for my how-to, or 1:647 for a fiction piece (a 'First time' story). My 'most-voted-on' is running at 1:131

I have way too many stories to figure out the ratios. I know that certain categories tend to get higher reads and votes while others languish. It's common knowledge that you get a much higher rate of views than votes.
