What is your dirty sexy music play list?

When I write, I like listening to music. It helps my brain from going total ADHD overdrive. Also, dirty sex music puts in the mood for writing. Does anyone else here do the same? Here's my list:

"Closer" by NIN (obvious, I know whatever...)
"Every other way" by BT (for more romantic sex scenes)
"Leave you Alone" by Young Jeezy (provided I don't start singing along...)
"Dissolved Girl" and "Karma Coma" by Massive Attack (a morally conflicted, probably sex addicted protagonists)
"Black Nights" by ATB (I've imagined my characters dancing to this song)
"imagination" by Jes (what can i say, I love her voice)

Pretty much anything by adventure club if my characters happen to be dancing.

You else has a list? Who else can make cool recommendations?

I tend to write to the sound of silence (and not the Simon and Garfunkel version).

God Only Knows by David Bowie. The song's more romantic than sexy but his voice is fuckin' hawt.

Depends on my mood. I have to close the outside world off when I write. Sometimes I'll find a concert on YouTube and listen.

Bill Withers - Use Me

Incredible bedroom song, hands down my top pick.

And it may sound strange, but I think Jamie Foxx's album "Unpredictable" has several great songs, the title track is another great tune for when the magic happens ;)

I need music, but not sexy.

It has to be loud and obnoxious.

Rob Zombie, Manson, Slipknot,Disturbed, maybe some old Sabbath and Priest. Danzig is good as well

I'm just an old-fashioned girl, I guess.

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles
Tell Me - Billie Myers
Watching the Detectives - Elvis Costello
You and your friend - Dire Straits
An Unusual Kiss - Melissa Etheridge
Love is the Drug - Roxy Music
Still You Turn Me On - ELP
Pretending - Eric Clapton
Miracles - Jefferson Starship
You Ain't Thinkin - Sonia Dada
Let me take it off your shoulders - Jill Barber
Who's that girl - Eurythmics

I could go on. :)

More often than not I'll call up a YouTube playlist to listen to when I'm writing ... which era depends on my mood ... 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's ... usually albums which have longer versions of 'Top 40' hits. Sometimes I like silence. ;)

I downloaded an interesting free album yesterday by a UK band called Kings of the City. They have a mix of influences, judging from their songs, and incorporate rap into nearly all of them. Strangely enough, they seem to fall into the 5% of rap I can tolerate. It's interesting stuff. Not terribly sensual, more angst-ridden than anything else.

If I do actively listen to music (I usually just have the TV on in the living room for background noise) while writing, I prefer instrumentals, especially from movie soundtracks. My current favorite is the soundtrack from The Book of Eli. It's moody and dark but I could also see it as a sonic backdrop for desperate, "I may never see you again" sex.

RuzieD.

Let me compliment you - that is a list with some outstanding tracks. It's the kind of music I tend to favour as well, although I listen to all kinds. BT is of course a living genius and treasure to the world.

I have had choreographed sex to the following tracks:

BT feat Jan Johnson "Reach Out For Me"
Push vs Globe "Tranceformation"
DJ Encore feat Engelina "I See Right Through To you"
Plummet "Damaged"
ATB "Don't Stop"
Liquid Child "Diving Faces"
Trance "Falling Star"
Fragma "Toca's Miracle"

...And more!

Virtually every one of my stories here has a reference in it to the actual tracks that go along with the sex scenes in the story. I do this for a specific reason - I have a belief that digital melodic chill/trance/vocal trance since the Nineties, contains beat patterns that activate sex-related neurochemicals.

Stumbleine I definitely do play...

To all those here who might find this kind of stuff - Deep House and melodic or psytrance and similar - more or less quite inaccessible to their ears, there is significant research and educated theory that indicates there are tricks to being able to really 'hear' what is going on in the music.

And I would have to point out right up front that there is huge space to regard Chris Isaak and Alannah Myles and Sonia Dada and the potentially 'more accessible' sensual/erotic/lyrical music styles as PRETTY GOOD STUFF TOO!!! Damn right! My god, without Isaak where would Kidman be in Kubrick's last flick!

The main trick to Deep House and Trance or Trance-Chill is to pick a track from a well-known/well-regarded musician in that particular style-genre and listen to it right through first without trying to apply any serious 'critiqueing' with your melodic mind... And maybe even try out a few tracks from those genres and when one starts to stick out a bit, play it through again, and then pre-arrange some activity around the music: sex, or special food, or a long bath, or even pseudo-sleep or meditation. And then crank up the volume and concentrate on WHAT YOUR BRAIN HAS STORED THAT IT EXPECTS TO COME NEXT THROUGH THE PIECE OF MUSIC.

Dopamine activity will have cleared your neural pathways at the start of this concentrated listening phase, and other very subtle and extra-short halflife brain chemicals will be able to flood through the cleared pathways as network connections fire in a constellation of temporal firings 'in synch' with the digital beat patterns and the audial sound peaks and drops.

The experience is markedly different then, from anything you might exerience by unprepared, unstructured listening to these kinds of works. In some respects certain kinds of EDM (electronically, digitally-enhanced music) mimic classical violin concertos and symphonic pieces and make novel demands on the listener compared to what one can typically expect from accessibly 'good' or melodic music.

All music can be rewarding of course, different kinds in different unique ways.

I usually write in silence, but I almost always have music running through my head. Depending on the mood:

Tender moments:
Massive Attack: "Safe From Harm"
Air: "Biological"
Die Arzte: "Mysteryland"
NIN: "La Mer", "A Warm Place" (aka Bowie's "Crystal Japan")
Lords of the New Church: "Dance With Me" (or the Nouvelle Vague cover)
White Zombie: "Blood, Milk and Sky"
Siouxsie and the Banshees: "Face to Face", "Till The Last Beat Of My Heart"
Tito and Tarantula: "After Dark"
Tom Waits: "Bad As Me", "Sea Of Love"
Hunters and Collectors: "Throw Your Arms Around Me"

Fun sexy stuff:
Garbage: "Queer"
Die Arzte: "Sweet Sweet Gwendoline"
Eartha Kitt: "Old-Fashioned Girl"
Frankie Goes To Hollywood: "Relax", "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" (bonus points for long long mixes)

Songs for those "I want to leave marks" moods:
NIN: "Closer", "Physical" (Adam + Ants cover)
Gary Numan: "Pure", "Dominion Day"
Rammstein: "Stripped" (Depeche Mode cover)
Umbra et Imago: "Sweet Gwendoline" (completely different song to the DA one)
Nick Cave: "The Mercy Seat"
Plasmatics: "The Damned"
Sisters of Mercy: "Dominion/Mother Russia", "Flood"
Divinyls: "Pleasure and Pain"

Mopey songs for wallowing in relationship angst:
Rammstein: "Sehnsucht"
Garbage: "Nobody Loves You"
Tom Waits: "Downtown Train"
Chris Cornell: "She'll Never Be Your Man"
Marina and the Diamonds: "The Outsider", "Obsessions"
Ink Spots: "Maybe"
NIN: "Ringfinger"
Sisters of Mercy: "More", "Temple of Love"
Gary Numan: "Seed of a Lie"
Coil: "Tainted Love" (Gloria Jones cover via Soft Cell, real music-to-slash-your-wrists-by)
White Town: "Your Woman"
Bryan Ferry: "Bete Noire"
Roxy Music: "Running Wild", "No Strange Delight"
Sinead O'Connor: "Troy"

...huh. Surprised how few female voices I have in there.

Messing with other people having sex:
Boots Randolph: "Yakety Sax"

I can't remember the author, but I came across a book where there was a suggested listening list attached. At the beginning of each chapter, there was a song listed. In addition, she had all the music she listened to while she wrote the book.

This Topic is Relevant to My Interests!

I go back and forth from silence to music. I am always on the lookout for music I find sexy, though... but I get kinda particular about it. I generally don't want men singing to me about sex; with a few exceptions, it's gotta be a woman's voice, or I won't find it compelling. Mood also matters, of course.

God is God -- Juno Reactor (so freakin' sexy, even despite the Charlton Heston drops)
Do You Wanna Touch Me and I Hate Myself for Lovin' You -- Joan Jett
Celebration and Express Yourself -- Madonna
Heeding the Call -- BSG Season 3 Soundtrack
Tell Me -- Billie Myers
Break the Ice, Piece of Me, Gimme More, 'til the World Ends -- Britney Spears (I'm not a huge fan of hers, but when she sings about wanting to get laid, I completely buy in)
Dirrty -- Christina Aguilera
Naughty Girl -- Beyonce
MOST of the Voodoo U album by Lords of Acid
All the Lovers, Can't Get You Out of My Head -- Kylie Minogue
Telephone -- Lady Gaga (I always imagine this being some woman telling her man over the phone not to freak out... while she gets freaky with one or more other guys)
Porn Star Dancing -- My Darkest Days

If I want something romantic and sexy, Sarah MacLachlan kinda takes the lead. Certain characters can get attached to songs for me, too. "Bette Davis Eyes" always makes me think of my succubus character.

TMI: In the sole one night stand of my life, the gal I was with put on Madonna's "Ray of Light" album on a low volume and hit repeat. I'm not one for wanting a lot of music while I'm in bed, but that one totally worked.

Hey, nice use of Tom Waits, NIN, and Garbage!

I have no idea....Ben Folds Five's "Satan is my Master" and Queens of the Stone Ages' "I Wanna Make it Witchu"...

Because subtlety is important to me.

Hey, Bramblethorn.

Okay I have heard Rammstein's Sehnsucht... Way too overtly dark, if filled with obvious sexual references, for me.

I prefer Schiller's Sehnsucht - which is an entirely different song. And for me much MUCH more erotic.

I like to 'think' I'm seeing sexual codes in both prose and song lyrics, so that there is a kind of secret intimacy going on that not 'everyone' can see.

Hey Bramblethorn again.

Troy? Sinead O'Connor.

Jesus. I'm amazed. You've got a really broad range of tastes going on there. And some pretty decent songs...!

I really do like The Push Edit version of Troy by The Phoenix (Sinead O'Connor vocals).

Downtown Train...? Patty Smyth (Scandal) kicks the hell out of everyone else's version; it's a great song of course, and we have to credit the actual writer with that!

I like listening to Haydn or Mozart.

Or sometimes Austrian/Tyrolean Brass Band Music.

You want classical?

Try Lola Astanova playing Rach. Moment Musicaux Opus 16 no. 5.

Seriously seriously great performer, who makes musical sense out of a difficult piece that virtually all others screw up entirely.

Astanova and Yngwie Malmstein are the only two musicians who can make sense out of Paganini, in my view - everyone else plays all of the notes, and none of the music. These guys play all of the notes and all of the music too.

Sarah MacLachlan is now forever associated with those ASPCA commercials. I cannot possibly listen to it and write anything even remotely romantic and sexy.
