What is with Americans and guns and healthcare?

Can anyone explain why there is a large part of the population of the USA who think that universal healthcare and very few people having guns is tantamount to worshiping Lenin? For most of the rest of the western world they are simply two things that constitute a civilized society. I have been to the US a lot and have met some of the nicest people I have ever met there. Despite this I still cannot understand how a country with so many positives can't see they are so wrong on these two things. More guns = more people dead, it's a fact. More healthcare = more people alive, it's a fact. (I appreciate that there are plenty of Americans who get this, just not enough it seems)

Should get a debate going! BTW I am NOT a socialist, communist, marxist or any such like, centre-right is more accurate.

Well, first off, the large part of the population who disapproves of health care does so because it's a drain financially on a government that may or may not be able to care for the enterprise.

The large part of the population that wants to retain the right to bear arms thinks that it's a right granted by the Founding Fathers, who took the nation by arms in revolt against England.

There is definitely a debate.

mass media uses trigger words to appeal to mob like behavior. you need only mention socialism, communism, terrorism, etc and people see red. red stimulates bulls. it causes them charge in anger. if you want the general public to turn against something, use your trigger words, wave your flag and watch them run.
