What is the current lag time between submission and publication? I know there used to be a thread about this, but I couldn't find it.

Wow, Melissa's time was a lot faster than for mine. The lag time for my last story, published yesterday, was five days. Or maybe it was four days. And it was a short story -- just under two Lit pages.

Before that, the lag time for my Valentine's Day story was two hours. I couldn't believe that. It was my longest story, too. I assumed it was because I submitted it near the end of the contest and maybe Laurel was being kind to the stragglers so they could get as much time as possible on the contest list.

The FAQ, the Writing Guidelines and a couple of How-To`s all mention the lag time, but it`s as inconsistent as it can get. None describe the same lag time (if memory serves one said 3-7 days, the other said 2-3 weeks and a third said 1-3 days) but it all comes down to: just be patient, it`ll get there.
Mine took two days to get published. Although I must confess that`s also the only one that got published so far, so I was kind of monitoring it ;)

One thing I do remember reading was that clicking the edit or preview button will push your submission to the very end of the queue again. Not sure if that one still applies, but that might cause your submission to not go through at all if you`re doing that every few hours.

My most recent submission was up in two days, but I have several in the queue.

I've found it depends on what category I post in. Longest is T&C, quickest is LW.

I never fret about it. I'll put a story up and check it each day, but I don't really care how long it takes. It'll take a few days after it goes live to get much of a response to it anyway (although that does depend a little on the category), so there's no point in getting stressed out on exactly how long it'll take. Just sit back and let it come when it comes. :)
