What is the best way to deal with a forum bully and/or troll who owns the site?

I dont understand what you mean by "owns a site". As far as bullies and trolls go I use ignore function if they bother me.

I mean he either started the site or mods it or both.

He then uses it to attempt to make himself feel better about his self perceived inferiority to witch hunt and "debate" against people. These people don't happen to hold the same views as he does and/or who won't argue with him the way he wants so he can feel superior.

The site has no ignore function.

Except for him, it's a great site to discuss entertainment and other things.

It was not billed as a conservative site or I wouldn't have joined it in the first damn place. Except for him and a few of his cronies it's not a conservative site. I really hate bullies.

If he owns the site I am afraid there is little you can do. You might try convincing him in private that he should ease up but I dont hold much hope for that.

My husband had the similar problem on one of the forums he liked people on. When he found out trying to deal with bullies is futile he asked me to put him up another forum with the same subject, which I did. He then proceeded to "collect" people from the old forum and now he has a large community he can moderate on his own. Just the other day he had a pleasure of one of the "bullies" trying to register - he kicked him out without a second thought.

That's awesome!

He doesn't just target me. It makes me far more angry when attacks others. That's the way I am. LOL.

I pretty much ignore his posts except to support those he has targeted with PMs or whatever. Sometimes however he tries to actively call me out various ways because he hates that I won't engage him his way.

Most people I would go toe to toe with but he doesn't ever truly listen or learn. What can ya do?

I generally won't let anyone run me off a site. I'm all bitchy and stubborn that way. Of course he could kick me off.

Well if he is that arrogant and mean to posters I am sure they would not mind switching to another site with more friendly moderators. Maybe you could gather with those you know feel the same way you do and see if you can find some solution together?
Not like establishing a site is such a big deal these days, none has to put up with any kind of abuse :)

I think that's a great idea. I'm not sure I want to take on a site right now but I'll think on it. Thanks for the idea!

:)

Very welcome :)

Mind, if you dont want to maintain a site maybe some of his other "victims" would find the idea appealing.

Again, that's a great idea!

I think I'll float that by a few folks and see what they say!

:D

I pretty much would do what SK suggested. And have, for that matter.

Too cool!

I actually know of another site that has a posse of conservative bitches that won't actually let you "discuss" anything much. They get mad and say you are being mean when you simply think differently.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

I happen to run a couple boards....

If you don't like the guy who owns it, your only real option is to leave if the abuse is bad enough.

If he is that bad, and I'm sure that you're correct in saying that he is, then people will eventually leave, and the board will die. Happens to most boards at some point if they don't keep their traffic up. It because a financially unsavory proposition if people leave, and traffic falls.

I've never used a programmed ignore function anywhere. I deal with idiots by "manually" ignoring them - I just don't respond. If that's not an option for you, I would imagine Greasemonkey scripts (used with Firefox) could allow you to define your own ignore functions.

Good points. Thanks!

I'm ignoring him manually as you say.

I've only used an ignore function once ever on a board.

Thanks for the suggestion!
