What is that place where you would eat on a daily basis if you could. You know that joint that serves food that you just can't resist? For me there are several.

"Bill and Bob's Roast Beef" on Route 28 in West Yarmouth Mass. This place was a drive up kind of place that made the best Roast Beef Sandwiches I have ever eaten. (It was there I learned to make the "Super" I have mentioned here more than once.) Unfortunately it was sold and now the place is considered a pit.

Baxters Fish Market in Hyannis Mass. They made some of the best Fish and Chips I have ever eaten.

Ray's BBQ on 45th Street in Riviera Beach Florida. A drive up kind of shack in southern Florida. They make the best Rib Sandwich I have ever eaten.

Outside of the Frankfurt Hauptbanhauf (Main Train Station) there was a little Turkish place that made the best Doener Kebabs.

What places are there for you?

There's a chain of brassieries in France, Le Coupoulle, I think. In France 'restaurants' open no earlier than seven p.m. and have several other restrictions, by custom, not law. Brassieries open much earlier though the French won't show up until seven or eight. It makes them great for American tourists, like us, who are used to eating at six. You can get a fixed meal that varies from day to day. It will have a salad, an entree and a dessert. With wine, that's really enough and they are all wonderful. The steak tartare was so good, I had it two nights running. I met an American attorney who worked in Paris and he said that he never went anywhere else. Why bother?

And not only is the service amazing but the decor . . . Back in the '30's when the original opened, the owner was personal friends with many of the most prominent artists in the city. You can wonder around looking at the walls, pillars and the ceiling and identify who painted which part. It's a course in early Modernist Art all by itself--with dinner included!

Crossroads in Vermont. The food is just good for every meal and is a down home kind of restaurant. Lord their steak is yummy.

Walt's BBQ in Cincinnati. Serves all the comfort foods of the south with the best slow smoked BBQ ever.

Greek restaurant Delphi in Emmen, Holland. Very, very cosy place with an whole family that runs the establishment. Food is very good, eventhough it's often more then you can eat.

Liar, liar pants on fire. The best BBQ on the planet is Jay-Birds in Lakeland, Florida. Jay's Canadian, but we allow him to live cuz he makes divine BBQ.
