There doesn't seem to be any definition of what it even means. There seem to be several conflicting meanings floating around the world today, many of them directly contradictory to each other.

That doesn't even get into whether any of these meanings represent a good thing or a bad thing. Yet, the words themselves are considered some sort of holy terminology that are uttered with almost religious reverence.

Pretty strange.

To me, positive multiculturalism and diversity means allowing ethnic groups to preserve their heritage and identity if they wish to do so. That would mean, ALL groups including historical majority groups in a given area. There's a bit more to it than that, but close enough. It means NOT forcing everyone to "become one" unless they want to. Its pretty much hands off and let people decide for themselves. That would be more of a nationalist's definition I think (I'm a philosophical nationalist).

Then you have the assimilationist or neo-conservatives who want to force everyone to "become one" so that they will be nothing more than atomized "rugged individualist" consumers that corporations can more easily sell their junk products to.

Finally, you have the liberal establishment view, which seems to be forcing everyone together and then telling them they have nothing in common so they will be at each other's throats and liberals can convince them we they need more government and more laws to solve the problems caused by this stupid idea.

I can only tell you what it means in my family.

That is, teaching the kids American and Chinese culture and acceptance of the differences. Moreover, to respect the decisions people make as to their cultural beliefs and traditions.

Only one demographic buys PC and multicultural diversity, the middle-class. The others, the elites & proletariat, cant be less interested in the bullshit.
