I upgraded my Realplayer today and it was offering a 30 day trial of Zone Labs ZoneAlarm..

I was thinking it might have some sort of virus protection in it.. but i'm starting to think not now.

What is this thing? It keeps asking me if I want to allow certain websites access to the internet and stuff.

zone alarm is a firewall program. It protects you computer from beeing acessed from the internet.

I consider it an essential thing. It is a great tool for controlling what your computer is doing. I don't know tech stuff, as dave is the carer of all things technical.

More importantly, it prevents trojans (malicious programs, not condoms) from transmitting personal/sensitive data to other computers. You are being prompted so that you can verify that that is a program that you think should access the internet. If you say "no", then it is blocked.
