What if's?

I like them but how about a reversal of one-

"What if"

A big company is designing a microbe to eat up oil spills and whoops make a mistake and pretty soon its multiplying out of control and eating up every bit of oil on earth?

I'm guessing it would be survivalist time...

I read that book . . .

'Illwind.'

Can't remember who wrote it, though . . . .

Yes, but the concept is fresh...

How would our lives change if our energy supply just "went away" or morphed into something else that marginalized oil!

I'd hardly say the concept is fresh . . . the idea of 'what would we do if our fuel ran out' has been a prominent feature of good (and bad) sci-fi since the forties.

Humanity, as a whole, is predictable, just as all the animal species. Riots, selfish acts of theft and vandalism, murder, rape, beatings, etc., would all occur for a while. Indeed, whole cities might be burned.

Millions would perish.

Then would come the survivors . . . well, you can watch any number of movies and see how that might play out. And the reality would not be too far removed from the fiction.

That always depends on the writing. How do the people in your story react?

Thats all your readers care about

Those one or two people!

Fucking is considerably older than that but Lit keeps the lights on with stories about IT!

Enjoy the journey

Written texts by Jesus?

Well first let's ignore the fact that he was a carpenter and likely illiterate. Let's say he dictated to a scribe, fairly expensive for someone with no money or worldly possessions aside from the robes on his back.
Christ was a rabbi and educated in mosiac law and the talmud. Children of the faith at that time attended classes at a synagogue and learned to read and write. Carpenters of that era were also trained as engineers, architects and artists, so because he was a craftsman, would it be fair to say he was uneducated?

Research, research and more of the same will free you of the tendency to label.

It is always and only about the journey

WarLord,

A journey of a thouand miles starts with a single step. Sometimes that first step is the asking of a question, in this case "What if?".

Cat

If a cheap, reliable and non polluting source of energy were discovered and not sold to the oil companies, it would quickly put millions of people out of work.

All the people who work for the oil companies.
All the people who work at the gas (petrol to you UK'ers) stations.
All the truck drivers who deliver the gasoline and oil.
All the people who work at the refineries.
All the people who work on the supertankers that deliver the black stuff.

The list is long. It would initially trigger a world wide unemployment crisis.

Yep.
