What if God was not a 'figment' of my mind? What if god came to you and showed up on your doorstep and proved himself real? What would you say to God? How would you react to God's presense? What would you accuse God of doing wrong? What would you thank him for? What would you do if it were true?

My answer:

I would freak out if God landed at my house and proved himself real. I would probably be much to embarassed to say to much to him. I would ask God why , really why dies there have to be suffering, what purpose does it really serve? I guess I would thank him for not have killing me for my stupidity up to the current point in time.

I know many here do not believe in God or that a God actually even exists, but just for the hypothetical{sp?} experince how would you react? If God revealed Himself what would you change or would you continue on your present course?

Just some Flame bait I guess, but i really am curious what anybody thought.

go ahead just try and hurt my feelings i aint going to let it happen anymore, i took them out puit them in a box and buried them in the back yard.

Hi bobtoad, I do believe in God, although I am not a regular church goer.I have friends of all faiths, from Catholic to Pagan & everything in between. If I had the opportunity, I would ask Him/Her why my son died at 17. I truly believe that God, or whatever name you give Him/Her, has a plan for everyone. It is coming up on the one year anniversary of my son's death & I still have so many unanswered questions. I want to know why some people were spared that awful night & why 7 others died. I know my son is at peace & he is in a good place. I can feel his presence every day, but I miss seeing his smile & hearing his voice. In the past year, I have become involved with victim/survivor advocacy & I am working with the local media to help them treat victims & survivors with more courtesy. Interesting that you started this thread, I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Have a good rest of the day.

Sorry Bob for my last response. :)

Talk to us Bob :)

If God came to my door I'd say, "So sorry, and could you do something about the Mormons, because they're really pissing me off."

Bob, you missed something just accept my apology and go on with your thread babe.

I can't answer it except to say that if there was a god I wish he would make the same rules for all of us.

Sorry BobToad, okay??? *HUG*

Apology accepted Nicole.

are you cure if there is a God he hasnt made the same rules for all of us, that we just havent interpreted them the same way?

...God Were One of Us?

Anybody else have Joan Osborne playing in their head right now?

Bobtoad;
Your question can cause so much friction on the board so I ask you WHY?
But I wouldn't ask Him anything I would just accept what he is doing after all God works in mysterious ways and who are we to judge.

I think I'd probably smile and invite God/dess in, make tea, and bring out my notes from Philosophy of Religion. I had trouble with the nature of God: omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent -- and theodicy.

It would an ideal time to clear all that up.

However, I have no doubt that in the next minute I'd be informed that, in truth, it was the LAST minute. I'd be wafted into my next life, unable to meet with Dr. Ricards and give him The Answer.

Probably 42.

That comment made me think. The Mormons are becoming the New Jehovah Witnesses. Everytime I see two clean cut white guys with white shirts and black pants with pocket protectors, usually on bikes, I turn in the other direction. I think the Mormons are a little scarier than the Witnesses because at least with Jehovah witnesses you can pretend that you're not home, but the Mormans you just have to run like hell.

dudley,

I didnt until you mentioned but now i do.

Creamy lady,

is that a reference to Hitchhikers guide to the universe or am i to much reading into your comment

Eve,

want the mormon solution also. i can email it to you

Bobtoad, it is a reference to Hitchhiker's Guide . . . it seems to be the answer to so many things. Or as good an answer as any.

creamylady,
awesome, i though i was the only one who read that book. have you tried yet the method for flying as put forth in that book? i have but i swear its the only thing i aim at and can hit everytime.

Didn't they do a movie about that with George Burns and John Denver?

The only flying I have attempted or done is in hopefully sturdy aircraft taking me vast distances at horrendous expense.

Seriously, what I took away from the series was the idea that, in truth, 42 was as good an answer as any for so many questions. It never has to make sense.

Which God?
I'll assume you're talking about the Christian deity and not Allah (if you saw Allah he couldn't be Allah) or the Demagogue. I think I'd say 'What are you doing here? Don't you have better things to do?'

Yes, I can be serious.
There is no way a person could ever prove he or she was God. How do I know it's not the devil is disguise?

'The Mormons'? I beg your pardon? I happen to have had several Mormon friends in the past and they've never felt the need to convert me or pressure me into believing what they believe. How is it that people who'd scream bloody murder if people start talking about 'the blacks', 'the Jews', 'the pagans' or 'the Italians' feel no compunction about insulting an entire religious group?

I'm certain you didn't mean the comment the way you did but do you honestly believe every Mormon is like that because the few you've met are? I'm certain I'll hear comments on how I'm overeating or be too PC but as someone who's had to listen to these types of sweeping generalizations for years it makes me a bit ill to hear any group of people stereotyped and joked about in the most tolerant group I've ever been in.

Creamylady: "It never has to make sense."
Well, I had another paragraph or two written but we all know my thoughts on this and I've talked enough already.

Never,

I was speaking of one true god doesnt matter what religion or denomination, he would would that all out. thank you for your response

Mormons

No, I'm not a Mormon. But I work at a company with a large group of them. If I were to stereotype them at all, it would be the Osmond family cliche. They really do believe family is most important, they don't drink, swear, do a lot of the bad things in life that the rest of us do. They are peaceful and faithful people. And I've never seen a single one of them try to convert anyone.

Now, if God appeared on my doorstep, I would be very happy. And one of the first things I'd want to know is when would I be able to see my dead grandparents again. They've been gone for years, and I still miss them. Part of the comfort in believing in God for me is the belief that I will again see loved ones who have died.

Hi all, no worries, bobtoad, I have so many more good memories than sad ones. I think this is an interesting thread. My ex-sister-in-law & her family are Mormon & they are some of the best people I have ever known. They still consider me to be family & they have been a great source of support for me. I think there are fanatic converters in every religion, living in the heart of the Bible Belt, I have seen them all. My personal philosophy is to each his own, as long as they don't hurt anyone else.

I probably would say something like, "Oh, geez, the house is a complete disaster. But then, You know that."

He'd probably come in, and I'd babble my thanks for giving me my kids. After that there would probably be this horrible silence, because I'd be tongue-tied.

Then when He left, I'd think of a zillion things to ask.

If God showed up at my doorstep......

:p
