I'm not a fan of British Royals either.
William looks smug/arrogant, Harry Andrew Anne don't look like the brightest cookies in the jar, Prince Andrew the pedro.
So why would the common folk who barely earns a living, continue funding the lavish lifestyle of such individuals?

But I just don't see anti-monarchists getting their way without some sort of major collapse.
Cause Commonwealth.

Maybe they will lose interest when we have King Charles.

You termed it wrong.

You can't say "anti" if you want to absorb America. Ya gotta do it like Putin. Turn us in amongst each other. Ya gotta - apparently - get us where we're dumb.

Who could know that America was functionally this dumb?

I certainly did not know that.

But now I do.

Along with anyone else who cares to whisper upon our fractured skull.

Barn your daughters. The war within is a cummin.

I will never understand why the Brits care so much for this family that does nothing more than sit on their royal ass most of the day.

Shut the fuck up, Cuban!! I am talking. And I'm talking about the death of us all, you dummyy...

Rubbish! The major Royals work hard every day. Even the Queen at her age does more engagements a week than any movie star.

Many people. whatever their age, would find her schedule exhausting. Prince Charles (and William and his wife) are doing far more than they sued to because of the Queen's age.

They cost the British taxpayer nothing. Instead, the Royals give all the income from the Royal estates to Parliament who then, grudgingly, gives some back. The Royals pay a higher tax rate than anyone else.

As for the Commonwealth? It is up to each country to decide for themselves whether they want the Queen as their notional head of state. By their own choice, Barbados changed on 30 November 2021 to be a Republic with an elected President. Prince Charles went there for the changeover. Barbados is still part of the Commonwealth and the Queen is still Head of the Commonwealth. Barbados' change of status doesn't affect their membership of the Commonwealth.

*chuckle*

They live off of the proceeds their family accrued...

... from their subjects.

It doesn't get much funnier.

And what does your President do? He costs far more than the Royals and there is no payback for the US. And what about the US billionaires? They live off the proceeds of their workers. How much tax do they pay?

You can't have one rule for the Royals and another for other rich people. Unless you are a Communist and the Head of Your State owns everything and everyone.

Okay, and this is a lecture that I've given many times...,

the rich don't pay taxes. They merely collect them.

Our taxes are hidden from us so that we will not rebel,
imbedded in the cost of everything that we purchase
and then, we pay a sales tax on the top of that.

This is why I am a huge fan of the FairTax.org.

If we knew what we were paying for on every transaction,
our voting patterns would radically change.

As it is...

... we think that we are sticking it to the rich guy
with targeted taxes (ThrobDownSouth thinking).

Our Presidents come and go and are term-limited...

;) ;) :p

And how much does electing a new one cost?

The US is in no position to complain about Royal possessions. Most of the US (the Louisiana purchase) was property stolen from the Spanish Crown by the French. You bought stolen property.

The anti-monarchists in the UK are a very small (but vociferous minority). They have no possibility of changing our present system.

But for other countries in the Commonwealth? That is for them to choose as independent countries. The Queen is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand... as their notional Head of State.

If they want to change, as Barbados did last month? They can. It doesn't affect the UK because the Queen as the other countries' Head of State is acting in her personal capacity. The UK Parliament has no say in what independent members of the Commonwealth want to do.

In practice, the Queen's role in each country is exercised by a Governor_General, a native of that county who is appointed by the Queen on the recommendation of the particular country's government. The Governor-General's role is usually only ceremonial - opening a parliamentary session for example, but in case of a constitutional crisis can act to dismiss a government as happened in Australia. If so, the Governor-General acts by himself. He doesn't need to consult the Queen, and the UK parliament has nothing to do with it because the Commonwelath county is indepemndent.

We're a sane country.

Our Queen is RuPaul..

:D

Some would doubt that. Guns? Drugs? Maga? Anti-vaxx? Border controls? BLM? Antifa? Proud Boys?

Early next year our Queen will have been our Head of State for 70 years. What other country in the world can match that?

So who, again, was in charge when you were a young man?

King George VI.

My father's Civil Service briefcase had the coat of arms of King Edward VII. It survived George V, Edward VIII, George VI and much of Elizabeth II's reign before he had to hand it back when he finally retired., It is now in a museum..

I cannot think of a worse 'profession'. Oh yes, living in castles, servants, face on coinage, it's all cushy, sure.

Against that is a schedule that would have most of us on our knees with fatigue. Figures vary, but a 2015 Express article says the 88-year-old Queen had 393 'engagements' in 2014 - visiting museums, dedicating bridges, opening this, presenting that. That includes 18 trips overseas, each with state affairs, huge dinners every day with 500 of her closest friends watch her eat every bite.

Remember Michael Jackson getting arrested for putting on a disguise and going to a store to see how normal people live? Cube that. You and I would have no qualms about going out to a local restaurant on a whim. Sometimes I think the Queen must at times dream of having the freedom to put on a frumpy old dress and go down to the local pub for a pint - just once.

Prince Harry, then a young officer in the British Army, was on a exercise at a British training base in Canada. He got a bit of leave and did what any normal 20ish young man would do - found a comfy bar and chatted up a pretty barmaid. Front page news.

God spare me that kind of life.

I just wanted to say "sit on their royal ass." I should have also referred to them as "welfare queens" while I was at it. Oh well.

But at this point what's the point? It's not like they have any real power. They are a figurehead family at this point as most power is in your parliament.

So many people want to be a celebrity, but to me this is the one reason I wouldn't want to be. Sure, the money is nice, but if I need to run to the supermarket, I don't want to have to call someone, make arrangements or whatever process they have to go through. I couldn't even go buy my wife flowers every time I mess up.
