im starting this thread not for siren ... what im saying in this thread i've said before in other posts before tonight ... but i do want to say it in a thread of its own

i think lawyers get a bad rap unfairly ... they do a wonderful job for society ... just like the police, teachers, nurses and doctors ... a lawyer believes in justice and right and wrong and their careers are in the pursuit of that goal for us ... they work extremely long hours and they work under incredible stress because of the ethics they strongly believe in the pursuit of justice ... when laws are flawed its lawyers that get the blame ... but lawyers dont make laws they uphold them for us ... i dont think i could be a lawyer the stress involved of having to be fair and impartial because that is the only way justice can happen lawyers do what they do because they believe in helping people

look at the stuff mischka and lavender have to go through its not even easy to become a lawyer ... people do it because its a calling and i think they deserve societies thanks

i wish i could of been more said it more eloquently with this thread to get my point across but im tired or dumb or both :) but i hope you get what i mean

please dont bash lawyers or disagree with me in this thread its meant to be a thread to thank lawyers not to debate start another thread for that :) (sorry i know im sounding like artful there telling people what to do)

P.S im not a lawyer and im not training to be one :)

and lobito the "truck drivers are good people too" would need another thread :p

I never respect someone because of his profession. The human being is more important that his resume.
But i have respect for anyone who does his job wtith dedication if he has the ability and knowlegde to do it.

ps Siren, I love you Was it enough english like ?

I thought we did this thread a week or two ago? Nevermind.

The law is sort of a unique profession because I think people join it for vastly different reasons. I think some Lawyers are motivated by money, but then many are truly motivated to help people. In a lot of cases lawyers can do both.

Lawyers are people. There are good ones and bad ones. You can't denigrate an entire profession because of a few ambulance chasers.

So basically I'm willing to give lawyers the benefit of the doubt. I think most of them are trying to do good for society.

Except for that motherfucker representing the moron suing all the fast-food chains. I hope he chokes on his next Big Mac.

PC I can agree with that but I'd like to add the lawer for the old bitch that burned her self with the hot coffee. My he burn his balls.

Nope that was it Siren I promise if any more come out it's not my fault. Sorry.

That case was from a few years ago and the woman had some justification because McDonald's did keep it's coffee insanely hot.

I'm talking about the suit filed just last week by a man claiming that he wasn't well-enough educated by the fast-food chains (Mcdonald's, KFC, and two others) that their food was filled with fat, salt, and sugar, and wasn't healthy. The guy is just a complete dope.

Yet he had no trouble buying a lawyer...........hehehe:eek:
Of course not. Although I'm not keeping up with the case, I'd be willing to bet that his lawyer is handling the case for insanely cheap because of the possibilities of a) the off chance that a jury might be gullible enough to award him money, b) the chance to get the companies to bend over and settle, or c) exposure.

Like some other groups, lawyers suffer from the fact that the decent, hard-working ones among them get virtually no press while the scumbags give the entire profession a bad name (see also: priests). Of course, it's compounded in law, because a lot of the honest ones become judges.

I'm still telling lawyer jokes, though.

2 of my 3 bridesmaids were lawyers. Now they won't give me a family discount cuz they hated the dresses. *grumbles*

well considering my gf was thinking about becoming a lawyer it nearly was my number 1 choice :)

inquiring minds want to know...what is your #1 then?

I think people bash lawyers because they feel inferior for needing a lawyer's help, believing emotionally that in a perfect world they ought to be able to do for themselves what a lawyer does for them. With doctor's they recognize a technical expertise they lack, but they don't respect the intricacies of the law in the same way, and it is that feeling that they are dependent without good cause on a lawyer's help causes resentment.

Until the hot coffee lands in THEIR lap, of course.

Thanks, Sexy-Girl. I know this post wasn't directed toward me, but I saw this first thing in the morning, and my day is made. Your perspective was very well stated.

I hope you don't mind me adding a few points on the positive side. Many of the protections we have in the U.S., like the right against self incrimination, the right against illegal searches, the right of free speech, etc. are there because lawyers are willing to stand up in favor of sometimes unpopular causes.

Also, while I can't speak for other states, I have seen the data for California, and approximately 35% of lawyers make less than $40,000 per year. Unlike public peception, lawyers are not all rich, and do not make huge amounts of money. The vast majority of lawyers make less than $100,000 per year.

It must also be noted that many lawyers do pro bono work, meaning they work for free because there is a cause or client they believe in whether there's money in it or not. Many lawyers volunteer in community clinics and other programs where they are providing needed advice and services.

Finally, lawyers are people. As with all groups of people, there is great variety. As with all groups of people, some will be better than others. Let's not judge people by or because of their chosen profession. Let's be open minded, and get to know someone for the person they are, for what is in their heart, for how they relate to people and treat people, and for the values they hold, before applying stereotypes and judging them unfairly solely because of the work they perform.
